Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a reproach to any people.
Proverbs 14:34

As one whom his mother comforts,
So I will comfort you.
Isaiah 66:13

Lord God,

Blessed are You for the patience and mercy You have shown toward America. This past week has been difficult for many in our nation who love You and who love the country You helped us establish. We are sorry, Lord, for many in our nation disregarded Your wishes and did not value or protect the tremendous gift of America that You have given us. Sometimes we are struck with the thought that we do not deserve any of Your goodness or mercy. O Dear God, would You help us, to be a nation that places righteousness as a priority? Once again it appears we have failed in many ways, and yet You are the God of second chances. We are well beyond that measure, Lord, and we acknowledge that You have given us many chances each day to choose righteousness. Please forgive us when we turn our backs and expect others to stand for Your truths without us.

Lord, the choices we make in our personal lives affect our nation’s choices as well. Help us to focus on what we can do each day through our own behaviors so that we choose righteousness over sin.

For those who are discouraged about the election results, please show us what we can do to bring forth righteous behavior in our nation. For those who are indifferent to the whole process of elections, please remind us of our responsibility to care to choose wisely, and to seek the selection of men and women of integrity and honor. For those who have given up and refuse to participate in responsible citizenship any longer, please stir up within us the desire to submit our hearts to You. May we all be alert to our surroundings so that we may leave our country in a far better condition than we found it.

Lord, please lead us away from hopelessness, for it is a dangerous thought and trap of the devil that ignores the hope and help we have in You. Surely there are many examples in Your Word that demonstrated what You were able to do through the willing hearts and trust of your people.

We want that righteous nation to be America, Lord. As we stretch our hands of friendship in prayer across this beautiful country, we ask You to guide us. Will You show us how to reach that desire that would surely bring glory to You? Help us, dear Lord. We know it is Your will to answer those who cry out to You on behalf of the people. We cry out to You now, Lord, that Your Name would be exalted in these United States. We love You, Lord, for You first loved us, and You have revealed to us the One who came to die for us. Thank You, Precious Lord. May we forever be grateful. In Jesus’ mighty and awesome Name, Amen.
