[Catholic Caucus] BREAKING: Toronto Oratory’s Latin Masses to be curtailed Sept. 20: reports

Weekly Traditional Latin Masses at the Toronto's Holy Family and St. Vincent de Paul churches will no longer continue, according to two long-established blogs, and traditional-form sacraments will end immediately.

Beginning Sunday, September 20, the weekly Traditional Latin Masses (TLM) at the Toronto Oratory’s Holy Family and St. Vincent de Paul churches will no longer continue as weekly celebrations of the 1962 Missal, according to two long-established Toronto blogs with deep ties to the churches in question.

Each parish would instead be required to offer one Novus Ordo Mass per month in place of a Sunday TLM; traditional-form baptisms, weddings, and funerals would end immediately; and the Scarborough and Schomberg Latin Masses were already cut to once a month earlier this year.

LifeSiteNews has not independently confirmed the reports. No public decree from Cardinal Francis Leo, the Archdiocese of Toronto, the Toronto Oratory, or Rome has been produced.

The changes, as reported, note that consultations between the archdiocese and the Holy See have been underway since late spring under Metropolitan Archbishop Leo. Auxiliary bishops met with Father Russell Asch — chaplain for the traditional liturgy at St. Lawrence the Martyr in Scarborough and St. Patrick’s in Schomberg — and with the Oratorians. Father Asch was required to implement changes in June; the Oratory’s new schedule is said to take effect next Sunday.

According to the accounts:

• Weekly Sunday Masses according to the 1962 books at St. Vincent de Paul and Holy Family end as weekly Traditional Latin Masses.
• One Novus Ordo per month is required at each church, staggered between the two parishes.
• On September 20, St. Vincent de Paul is to have an English Novus Ordo, still at the old high altar but simply read.
• Holy Family is to have a Latin Novus Ordo the following week, facing the people, with music of the new rite.
• No other sacraments may be conferred according to the traditional liturgical books.
• Schomberg and Scarborough were already reduced to monthly Masses earlier in 2026.

Toronto Catholic Witness, whose author says he was at St. Vincent de Paul yesterday when the news was given, wrote that the Toronto archbishop “kept the Romans at bay for over a year with ‘consultations.’” Vox Cantoris blog noted that the same four churches already have sufficient English Novus Ordo Masses (and Italian Masses at St. Lawrence) and that there is “no demand” from other parishioners to remove the Latin Mass.

The first public accounts came from Toronto Catholic Witness on Sunday, September 13, and Vox Cantoris on Monday, September 14.

Toronto Catholic Witness is a veteran local traditional Catholic blog that has followed the Toronto Latin Mass, the Oratory, and archdiocesan liturgy for years. Its author wrote from firsthand experience at yesterday’s Mass at St. Vincent de Paul.

Vox Cantoris republished that report and added the wider timeline. The blog is associated with church musician David Domet, who sang for years in the Toronto Oratory choir at Holy Family, later served as cantor and schola director for Traditional Latin Mass communities in the city, and has been involved with the Una Voce/Toronto Traditional Mass Society circle.

So Francis"mercy" only is only applicable to homos, perverts, pro-aborts, etc; but not for traditional Catholics.
