It's like the story of the farmer and the flood. "But my son, I sent two boats and a helicopter to rescue you, but you did not see it."

God gave his only Son, and started His Church to save us from sin. He also said that He is the only "good path".

The bishop should retire and give long contemplation on forming a personal relationship with God.

The Bishop just produced an argument that he and his episcopal position are irrelevant. He should be turned out of the mansion he no doubt lives in, and his salary, pensions, and all the perks of his office should be removed.

Apparently, the good Bishop must have missed Jesus' teaching: "I am the way, the truth and the life - NO MAN comes to the Father but through Me." - Jesus

Since evangelizing (preaching/teaching the good news about Jesus the Redeemer) isn't necessary, the Bishop and all clerics can now resign and all Church property sold with proceeds given away. Who needs a Church preaching the gospel if it is no longer necessary?

With bishops like this, churches ARE closing, and people ARE practicing a kind of private religion, if they have any religious beliefs at all. When bishops say stuff like this, people make the obvious inference and just leave.

And, of course, this desertion of the faith is not limited to Catholicism, as the leaders of many Protestant churches have voiced opinions similar to those of this bishop. We've all seen photos of the aging, fat, lesbo bishops and priests in Anglicanism and the other state churches of Europe.
