But the gospel today was all about the Annunciation; “... the infant in my womb leapt...” The first part of the Gospel Reading is, taken alone, about the Annunciation, but along with Mary's Magnificat that follows, I think the Church in choosing this reading is trying to highlight the great dignity of Mary in her personal holiness and obedience to God and the high honor given to her as being chosen to be the Mother of our Lord. This is why she was honored with the privilege of being assumed into heaven when her earthly life was done.
