Exploring the possible causes of such a catastrophic abandonment of Catholicism in a land which lies at the heart of the Church, the Roman professor surmised that among the likely causes are the liturgical abuses and upheavals to which the Church in Italy has been subjected. He particularly pointed to the “progressive spectacularization of Vatican liturgies that has occurred over the past three pontificates” in Rome, as well as the liturgical innovations with which Italian clergy have scandalized faithful Catholics.

“Many of the nominally still highly institutionalized and centralized (‘liturgy-centered’) rituals may now have been transformed, in part or entirely, into ‘performance-centered rituals.’” Diotallevi wrote. “For Catholic liturgies, a push in this direction may also have come from the progressive spectacularization of Vatican liturgies that has occurred over the past three pontificates, from the substantial deregulation of increasingly large sectors of ‘Catholic’ liturgical offerings, as well as from many of the solutions adopted by clergy during the lockdowns that have recently taken place to counter the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.”

The public liturgical abuses that Italy has seen in recent include a Mass sacrilegiously offered on a surf board, in the water, at the beach, with the priest bare-chested, an outrage that prompted local civil authorities to consider charging the priest with the crime of a public offense against religion. Another priest offered Mass at a park in a rainbow “pride” stole and a skin-tight cycling outfit, and joked when hosts were blown by the wind onto the ground after the consecration.

All of the above are fruits of VC II (the "New Pentecost") and the font of all of Bergoglio's heresies, innovations and Sin-Nods.

Relocate Vatican City to Onitsha, Nigeria.

Make the font even bigger!

The politicized and gay clergy, who've lost sight of their mission, are wrecking the church.

I agree. Pope Francis seems to be fixated on just three things: Climate Change, allowing illegal immigration, and making Islam a co-equal to Christianity.

Notice that spreading the Gospels is not in the list.

Previous popes certainly had their faults. But nothing like this guy.

Maybe if the church were actually Catholic and acted like it.

True. This pope has driven many, many Catholics away with his radical, far-left, woke, Marxist policies. He should have stuck to the 10 Commandments, and left all of his socialistic, extreme left wing politics alone.

We were told the only way for the Catholic Church to attract young people was to get a Marxist Pope.

Is it possible we were misled?

Maybe this was all prophesied by the third Secret of Fatima. Vat II started in 1962 and Lucy wrote the Secret out in 1943 longhand and insisted the Secret not be revealed till 1960 and some of the Secret has still never been revealed because the Curia knew the result of the Third Secret. Since Vat II 18000 priests have left Holy Orders, Churches and schools around the World are closing at an alarming rate and Mass attendance is down greatly. Even Popes demand some of the Secret not be revealed because the Progressives want to continue minimizing the Church because Satan is in control of them. Maybe a simple solution is for the next Pope be a Traditionalist and admit a mistake was made and revert back to the Traditional Church by banning VatII.

When the Neocons start causing nuclear detonations regarding Ukraine, I suspect that there will be better attendance at these churches.

The faithful core will prevail, doesn’t matter how many or what percent.

I’m going to be in Italy later this year. I only go to the TLM (aside from the weddings/funerals/confirmations of family & friends), so I won’t be able to gauge Novus Ordo participation. But it’ll be interesting to see if Italy’s TLM communities are as vibrant and growing as they are here in the U.S. and in France & Britain. Based what I’ve heard, my expectations are low, as many of the Italian bishops have been notoriously hostile to the old rite. Still, the great irony of the situation is that wherever the Novus Ordo’s collapse is accelerating, the faithful remnant at the TLM becomes increasingly important.
