he Second Baptist Church in Palermo was vandalized Saturday night with pro-abortion slogans and red paint.
The vandals painted “abortion is a human right” on the rear of the church and defaced the church’s Christmas nativity scene with the phrase “queer love 4 eva”.
Pastor Joshua Barnes addressed the crime Sunday morning during his service, but he wasn’t optimistic that law enforcement would be able to hold the culprit accountable.
“They parked out of camera range and walked in in the dark,” Barnes said. “That’s typically what cowards do.”
“We’ll find out who it is,” he said. “I’m sure it’s somebody local.”
In his morning prayer, he asked for forgiveness for the vandals.
The Church previously faced threats in 2019 after it placed a message on its sign stating that Jesus created “Adam and Eve” not “Adam and Steve.”
Rep. Katrina Smith (R-Palermo) posted an image of the vandalism to her Facebook page.
“Is this how civilized people speak against people who have a different view?” Smith said. “Have you ever seen a Christian group in Maine do something like this even in the face of the 1619 defeat and legalization of full term abortion? NO you have not.”
“2nd Baptist church in Palermo is a church made up of good loving people and this is not acceptable,” she said.
It’s unclear what prompted the pro-abortion vandalism.
In June, Gov. Janet Mills signed a bill into law that will allow abortions for any reason up to the moment a child is born.
Senate Democrats even blocked an amendment that would have prohibited abortion clinics from selling aborted baby parts.

If this had happened to a queer “church” or community center with Bible verses which condemn homosexuality, be assured that the full force of the federal law enforecment machine would be in 24/7 action until the perpetrators were caught and sentenced to 24-to-life in prison for a “hate crime.”

Perhaps, in the spirit of Christian compassion, the church could compromise with these vandals and put up an “Abort all queers” sign. That should make them happy, right?
