Acts, Chapter 2, is quite long. But the female sex is mentioned only once, and then peripherally. However, your representations almost without exception emphasize the role of woman as a central theme. This, I must take it, is explained by the explosion of Marianism that was brought to Europe by Crusaders; it was a subject that dominated for centuries and was a dominant theme during the Rennaissance. It reached its paramount achievement with the Pieta of Michelangelo. However, most of the paintings, above, are little more than poster art.
