A former member of the Loyola community named "Klara", 58, gave another testimony against Father Marko Rupnik SJ (EditorialeDomani.it, January 23).
Klara was 16 when she met Rupnik, who was ten years her senior, in 1980. A year later, he began kissing and hugging her as "a gesture of tenderness". In 1986, he masturbated in front of her and asked her to masturbate him.
A year later, Klara joined the Loyoala community, which was controlled by Rupnik. Many sexual encounters followed. He admitted to her that he had sexual relations with other sisters and suggested "threesomes", asking her if she preferred to do it with another sister or another man.
Rupnik entrusted Klara to a woman, a former member of the Loyola community, to prepare her for such encounters. She talked about "drinking his semen from a goblet at dinner". When Klara resisted, Rupnik humiliated her. Her superior, Sister Ivanka Hosta, then ostracised her. Rupnik used the sisters' frailties to obtain sexual services, she says now.
At the age of 35, Klara left the community. When she later confronted Rupnik, he remained impassive, saying he did not know what she was talking about.
The sisters' testimonies were found credible by the Jesuits in May 2019, and by Vatican judges in January 2020. Rupnik was excommunicated in May 2022, but the excommunication was lifted within days by Francis, who had the sole authority to do so. Despite this, Francis claimed this week that he "knew nothing" about the case.
Now all the major Catholic outlets, including Gloria.tv, MessaInLatina and LaNuovaBq.it, are accusing Francis of lying. Even the pro-Francis outlet IlSismografo.Blogspot.com writes that only a pope can pronounce and lift an excommunication.
