My wife works with a bunch of ultra orthodox Israelis and they really believe that they need to repopulated the Jewish population. Most of them have 5 or more kids.

As an American patriot, a Jew, and a Zionist, let me be the first to say there are huge elements of the orthodox population, particularly those two-country welfare-suckers (also unwilling to serve in the military,) I utterly despise. Please do not mistake my comment for any sort of self-hating “antisemitism.” I simply have a deep distaste for the manner of thinking of large parts of this population, and I do not like being near or around them. The problem is that they are welfare recipients, which would be against the Torah. You want to eat, you have to work. So, they are using the system to have kids for welfare benefits but they are not earning their way as the Torah requires.

I do not wish to engage in research at the moment. I lived in Israel for years. It is not hard to find numbers. Remember there as many or more types of “orthodox Jews” as there are Christians, or more.

Israel’s rapidly growing ultra-Orthodox community is expected to double within 16 years, less than half the time it will take for the rest of the population to increase by the same proportion, the Israel Democracy Institute said in a report released Thursday.

In its fifth annual statistical assessment of ultra-Orthodox society, the IDI examined developments in such areas as standard of living, education, employment, social mobility, leisure, and lifestyle.

Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, government ministries and agencies, and the National Insurance Institute, it found ultra-Orthodox households on average earn less than half of the income of other Jewish households, while identifying trends showing more community members entering higher education and shifting toward higher paying jobs.

Haredi is a new term to people like me, a 66 y/o Catholic.
I’ve never heard of it before right now.
I’ve always thought highly of the Jews in a general sense, because early in life, I could see that they had a great respect for learning, and made their kids study.

That said, Wiki tells me Haredi Judaism is a group within Orthodox Judaism that is characterized by their strict adherence to Jewish Law, aka Halakha and traditions. They are opposed to most modern values and practices. It’s members are often described as Ultra Orthodox.

Haredi Jews regard themselves as the most religiously authentic group of Jews, although most other movements of Judasim disagree.
