Members of a Baltimore church are giving thanks this week that their longtime pastor wasn’t seriously injured during a mid-service assault on November 20. According to news reports, a 55-year-old man allegedly attacked Bishop Jerome Stokes with a hammer during Sunday worship at The Church of the Redeemed of the Lord (CRL).
Stokes, 78, received only a minor laceration on one ear. The alleged attacker, whom police say may have been having a mental health crisis, was evaluated at a local hospital. Baltimore Church: ‘We Thank God That Dr. Stokes Is Okay’
In a statement posted to its Facebook page, the Baltimore church addresses the violent interruption of “our corporate worship experience.” It notes: “We thank God that Dr. Stokes is okay and recovering with only minor injuries. We appreciate the quick response of those parishioners who apprehended the individual. The safety of all who come to worship at CRL is of paramount importance; and our team is reviewing Sunday’s incident and assessing our safety protocols.”
The church concludes by saying it is cooperating with the police investigation and encourages people to pray “for everyone impacted by Sunday’s incident.”
Stokes has served for 35 years at the church, where he is both senior pastor and CEO. He also is an author and broadcasts through The Lamp of Victory radio program.
According to its website, The Church of the Redeemed of the Lord provides “congregants and community with programs, services, and courses of instruction for the development of the total person.” Through “strategic business plans,” the church says it’s able “to meet the needs of the community, empower individuals, and change lives.” Baltimore Churchgoers: ‘Our God Is a Protector’

Our church, which is 20 miles north of this place has no security protocols in place. As far as they know they don’t but several of us have or are awaiting our CCW permits for the covert security team.

Our church has several armed members at every service.
The title of pastor and CEO leaves me with some questions.
Our church here in NH has no need for a covert security team.
I’ll bet on any given Sunday easily 25% of the men and probably some women, are carrying.
NH loves its guns.
Life changed for me when Pastor Fred Winters was shot and killed during a church service back in 2009 in Maryville, IL. His death was not in vain, because valuable lessons were learned.
A bad actor might get the drop on me, since he gets to decide the time and place of the attack, but at least I have a chance now. I’m well aware of the inevitable aftermath with all the leftist pimps out there, but the church members and I have the right to live another day.
The right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is not just some slogan.
You don’t show up at church and suddenly have a “mental health” crisis. This was premeditated.

This is a nice but altogether to mild a bit of Nemisis coming to bite the establishment in the ass. The goood REVERUUUND has pushed the religion of politics narrative for decades. Telling his brain dead congregation how ‘dey be owed’ and how ‘whitey, he be de DEBBIL’ and how only by voting for liberal statist dems could ‘de po people’ be kept safe and secure and the welfare, and disbility checks, and food stamps, and ‘dem affirmativer actions’ be kept coming. He finally reaped a small piece of what he sowed in permanently destabilizing his city and helping make it the sewer it is.
