Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Exodus 5

Bricks Without Straw

5 Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the wilderness.’”

2 Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.”

3 Then they said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Now let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God, or he may strike us with plagues or with the sword.”

4 But the king of Egypt said, “Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their labor? Get back to your work!” 5 Then Pharaoh said, “Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you are stopping them from working.”

6 That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and overseers in charge of the people: 7 “You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw. 8 But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don’t reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’ 9 Make the work harder for the people so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies.”

10 Then the slave drivers and the overseers went out and said to the people, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I will not give you any more straw. 11 Go and get your own straw wherever you can find it, but your work will not be reduced at all.’” 12 So the people scattered all over Egypt to gather stubble to use for straw. 13 The slave drivers kept pressing them, saying, “Complete the work required of you for each day, just as when you had straw.” 14 And Pharaoh’s slave drivers beat the Israelite overseers they had appointed, demanding, “Why haven’t you met your quota of bricks yesterday or today, as before?”

15 Then the Israelite overseers went and appealed to Pharaoh: “Why have you treated your servants this way? 16 Your servants are given no straw, yet we are told, ‘Make bricks!’ Your servants are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people.”

17 Pharaoh said, “Lazy, that’s what you are—lazy! That is why you keep saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.’ 18 Now get to work. You will not be given any straw, yet you must produce your full quota of bricks.”

19 The Israelite overseers realized they were in trouble when they were told, “You are not to reduce the number of bricks required of you for each day.” 20 When they left Pharaoh, they found Moses and Aaron waiting to meet them, 21 and they said, “May the Lord look on you and judge you! You have made us obnoxious to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.

Because it was so hard to find a doctor who took her "plan", Cathy (not her real name!) resorted to the Internet to find out what was causing her miserable gastro-intestinal distress. She entered the symptoms into the search Engine and got hundreds of pages blaming the Ultimate-Gastronomic-Boogieman, namely Gluten. Now, for people with Celiac's Disease or Related Disorders, gluen is indeed a problem. But, like the Kale Kraze that took place several years ago, the Anti-Gluten Movement has gone overboard. But, Cathy was desperate, and so she removed anything that had Gluten in it from her home. I was a direct beneficiary of that, and brought home bags of Thai Noodles, Bagels, Exotic Breads, Mac 'n' Cheese, Pasta, and Granola Bars from her pantry. It felt as though we were preparing her home for Passover, even though Cathy isn't Jewish, because a lot of items that contain Gluten are made with Wheat Flour and leavening.

Cathy is an excellent cook, but now she had to substitute other grains for wheat flour that she used as a thickener in food preparation. One of the Gluten-Free Grains that had been recommended to her was Quinoa. She attempted one of her favorite recipes, substituting Quinoa for Wheat. It was a disaster. Sloppy, gloppy, and runny, it would NOT hold together. She ended up throwing it out and asking me for her Wheat Flour back. It turned out, when she was finally diagnosed, that her ailment was not a sensitivity to Gluten at all, but a C-Diff infection that required major antibiotics. Cathy has gone back to her original style of cooking, and the Quinoa has never been considered again.

Gluten, as the name implies, is like a glue that holds food together. A nice roux, which is an essential in French Cuisine, uses flour and fat (either butter, lard, or oil) is used to thicken food and hold it together. Any substitutes in the roux are going to show up in the finished product. And, if you are into Quantum Mechanics, sub-atomic particles are held together by something appropriately called gluons.

Bricks, especially sun-dried bricks, also need something to hold them together, and in the time of Moses, it was chopped straw. By forcing the slaves to make bricks without straw, they were given an impossible task. The bricks would not hold together long enough to dry out and bake in the sun.

I remember the first time I read the Book of Coossians and came across this verse in Chapter 1:17

17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

This immediately brought to mind those subatomic forces that keep the atoms from flying apart. God never intended that we should try to make bricks without straw. We have the "Glue" that holds it all together, right here in our hearts. His Name is Jesus. and he won't let go.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 116

1 I love the Lord, because he has heard
my voice and my supplications.
2 Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The snares of death encompassed me;
the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:
‘O Lord, I pray, save my life!’

5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
our God is merciful.
6 The Lord protects the simple;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return, O my soul, to your rest,
for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

8 For you have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.
9 I walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.
10 I kept my faith, even when I said,
‘I am greatly afflicted’;
11 I said in my consternation,
‘Everyone is a liar.’

12 What shall I return to the Lord
for all his bounty to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord,
14 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his faithful ones.
16 O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the child of your serving-maid.
You have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice
and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!

Yes! Physics.

In Quantum Mechanics, gluons are the carriers of the “strong force” that hold the protons, neutrons, whatever, in the nucleus together.

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Strong Force—they weren’t kidding.

Joining in prayer, left that other site, for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
