Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Exodus 2

Moses Flees to Midian

11 One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were and watched them at their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. 12 Looking this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, “Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?”

14 The man said, “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought, “What I did must have become known.”

15 When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well. 16 Now a priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came to draw water and fill the troughs to water their father’s flock. 17 Some shepherds came along and drove them away, but Moses got up and came to their rescue and watered their flock.

18 When the girls returned to Reuel their father, he asked them, “Why have you returned so early today?”

19 They answered, “An Egyptian rescued us from the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the flock.”

20 “And where is he?” Reuel asked his daughters. “Why did you leave him? Invite him to have something to eat.”

21 Moses agreed to stay with the man, who gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage. 22 Zipporah gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom,[c] saying, “I have become a foreigner in a foreign land.”

23 During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. 24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.

Footnotes

a Exodus 2:3 The Hebrew can also mean ark, as in Gen. 6:14.
b Exodus 2:10 Moses sounds like the Hebrew for draw out.
c Exodus 2:22 Gershom sounds like the Hebrew for a foreigner there.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,

Our God,

How Excellent is Your name Over All The Earth!

Blessed Are You, King of The Universe,

And Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!

How Happy we are to be called of You,

To Come into Your House With Singing and Praise,

To Exalt Your Name Together, Forever!

We Seek You, and Find You,

And You Deliver Us From Our Fears.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Four months ago, I drove halfway across the state to pick up my new pup. I had passed muster and been approved to adopt Tippy, an Aussie Cattle Dog.

The Foster Parents, who had Tippy for a month after her rescue in Houston, were newlyweds. On the wall over the dog crate in the dining room was a huge poster that announced the state of the planet on the day they were married. It contained the #1 Song, the Location of their Wedding (latitude and longitude), the Weather on that date, the Governor of the state, and the President of the USA, who, at the time, was Donald J. Trump.

While I was still gazing at the poster, the Foster-Mom opened the crate and Tippy barreled out. She threw herself at my feet and rolled over, with a look that said:

"Hey, Dis Belly don't rub ITSELF!"

We instantly bonded.

Last Thursday would have been my 50th Wedding Anniversary. Since I was widowed 11 years ago, it shouldn't have been an important day for me, but somehow, it was. I had to work, and it was insufferably hot, so I left home early to shmooze around some air-conditioned thrift stores before teaching. My favorite Thrift Store, which donates to various charities, has an awesome book department. An old, beautifully bound book was on display. It was a signed copy of Richard Nixon's memoirs. The price was way out of my range, but I thought that it was ironic because Richard Nixon was the President on the day I was married 50 years ago, and that I encountered this book on my Anniversary. Life is so strange, and a lot can happen in 50 years.

The little passage in today's reading covers a period of forty years in Moses's life. A big chunk of the movie "The Ten Commandments" covers this time. Of course, Cecil B. DeMille had to create extra characters and story lines to flesh out that time frame. He created a romantic interest for Joshua, an exquisitely sleazy bad guy played by Edward G. Robinson, and gave Moses mitigating circumstances for killing the Egyptian Overseer. Some of it may have been culled from extra-biblical sources, but I suspect most of it was Hollywood. We even got a Dance Number from Jethro's daughters! (This is one of my favorite movies, but we always have to be able to discern what is Bible and what isn't.)

Anyway, let's all just agree that 40 years is a long time to prepare for ministry, but once you get rolling, it seems like you just started yesterday.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 92

A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath Day.

1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
2 to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night,
3 to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre.
4 For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

5 How great are your works, O Lord!
Your thoughts are very deep!
6 The dullard cannot know,
the stupid cannot understand this:
7 though the wicked sprout like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction for ever,
8 but you, O Lord, are on high for ever.
9 For your enemies, O Lord,
for your enemies shall perish;
all evildoers shall be scattered.

10 But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox;
you have poured over me* fresh oil.
11 My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.

12 The righteous flourish like the palm tree,
and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 They are planted in the house of the Lord;
they flourish in the courts of our God.
14 In old age they still produce fruit;
they are always green and full of sap,
15 showing that the Lord is upright;
he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
