Episcopal leaders voice grief at Supreme Court ruling ending constitutional protection for right to abortion

[Episcopal News Service] The U.S. Supreme Court on June 24 upheld a Mississippi law that outlaws abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, effectively overruling Roe v. Wade, the almost 50-year-old opinion that guaranteed a constitutional right to abortion.

“The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote, in his 79-page majority opinion. In the past, the Supreme Court has held that the “due process” clause of the Fourteenth Amendment guarantees “some rights that are not mentioned in the Constitution,” Alito wrote, “but any such right must be ‘deeply rooted in this Nation’s history and tradition’ and ‘implicit in the concept of ordered liberty.’

“It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

The Episcopal Church’s two presiding officers, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, president of the House of Deputies, issued statements reacting to the decision.

“While I, like many, anticipated this decision, I am deeply grieved by it,” Curry said in his written statement. “We as a church have tried carefully to be responsive both to the moral value of women having the right to determine their healthcare choices as well as the moral value of all life. Today’s decision institutionalizes inequality because women with access to resources will be able to exercise their moral judgment in ways that women without the same resources will not.”

Jennings in her statement called the ruling “a blow to people of all faiths and none, who have cherished for nearly 50 years the hope of equal access to reproductive health care.” She cited past General Convention resolutions that opposed state and federal legislation restricting women’s reproductive rights.

Today’s decision institutionalizes inequality because women with access to resources will be able to exercise their moral judgment in ways that women without the same resources will not.

Simple solution: prohibit for all women. Problem solved. But really, "equality" is more important that a child's life?

Evidenced by Justice Alito's statement concerning the significance of the Constitution's silence about murder of unborn children, what we're unsurprisingly not hearing from desperate Democrats and likewise corrupt media is that the Court's decision in Roe v. Wade was a major constitutional scandal imo.

Insights welcome.

Also, Trump's red tsunami of patriot supporters are reminded that they must vote twice this election year. Your first vote is to primary career RINO incumbents. Your second vote is to replace outgoing Democrats and RINOs with Trump-endorsed patriot candidates.

Don’t know anything about this so-called “religion”. So my question is, how does a supposedly “Christian” religion support murdering babies in the mother’s womb? Exactly where in all Biblical text is this subject present? Nevermind condoned? Oh, wait, I know. The Ten Commandments, Thou Shall Not Murder!
This has been bastardized by the LEFT into thou shalt not kill.
And, LEFTISTS use their own bastardization of this to oppose War and the execution of murderers. But, conveniently forget all about it when it comes to killing babies in the mother’s womb.

SCOTUS Justice Neil Gorsuch grew up Catholic but married an Episcopalian (she was formerly Church of England - a sister denomination). And together they were members of a very liberal ePiss church in Boulder, that was vocally into gun control, the Greenie's climate agenda, and other libbie political issues. Gorsuch also had an Episco uncle.

That's why many conservatives were worried that Trump hadn't done his homework thoroughly and was unwittingly foisting another Souter/Manchurian-Cand on us at the time of N.G.'s nomination.

I think many are breathing a sigh of relief now.
