CHAPTER 1, VERSES 2 & 3

2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

NOTES:
1. God explained this surface-darkness in Job 38:
"When I laid the earth’s foundation…I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness."
2. God directs our attention to the earth's surface. We are to view the following events not looking downward from outer space, but looking UPWARD from earth's surface.


3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

NOTE: Here, God transforms the thick cloud layer
from opaque to translucent (but not yet transparent),
permitting sunlight to reach the earth's watery surface—needed for photosynthesis by the vegetation He soon will create.

CHAPTER 1, VERSES 6-24

6 And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.”


9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.”


11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.”


14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.”

NOTE: Finally, God transforms the thick cloud layer from translucent to transparent, permitting sun, moon and stars to be seen at the earth's surface—needed by animals to regulate their biological clocks.

20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.”


24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.”

Why are angels nearly always portrayed by artists as female, when no female angels are ever mentioned in the Bible? And even when they are portrayed as males, they have feminine facial features. Hollywood does it as well, not just Renaissance artists and such...................

Here’s a tradition/Kabbalistic mind-bender for you. G-d created the sun and stars later in the week. So what was the “light” that was created on this day?

Why not? Apparently God has one, since all artists depict Him as having one! Apparently beards are standard issue for all gods, since Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Norse gods had beards!.............................

He created the photon, the essential particle of light, as He also created the Laws of Physics for the basic particles, electrons, protons, neutrons, etc., to operate under....................

No. He created them "in the beginning", as part of "the heavens and the earth."

In verse two He directs our attention to the Spirit at the earth's surface: we are to view subsequent events from there, looking upward.

God told Job He had darkened the earth's surface with an impenetrable cloud layer. Now, He is thinning those clouds to let there be light at the surface; He will need it to enable photosynthesis soon.

Love #4 and of course the angels of Edward Burne-Jones! Very creative design, the Days of Creation fascinated Burne-Jones. I love that he makes each angel join with the others in the following days. As an aside, he used his daughters as models for the angels. This was considered one of his greatest works.
