That’s your proof? A garbled text from a newspaper?

Did your pastirs also distort it just as they distorted the Bible and the writings of Melito?

By the way, the 1917 Catholic Encyclopedia article on Sunday knows nothing about your alleged “categorical statement”.

Then the Council of Trent is a LIE, as well as your whole church.

Archbishop of Reggio’s Sermon
to the Council of Trent on the Power of the Church:
By Our Authority The Sabbath Was Changed To Sunday!

At 8:00 A.M. on the morning of 18 January, 1562, the four conciliar legates Gonzaga, Seripando, Hosius, and Simonetta, together with Ludovico Madruzzo, Duke Guglielmo Gonzaga of Mantua, and the patriarchs, archbishops, bishops, abbots, generals of the Orders, and many others assembled in the church of S. Pietro in the eastern German quarter of the city. From S. Pietro’s [San Pietro degli Orbi] they went in procession to the cathedral [San Vigilio], where Cardinal Gonzaga began the proceedings by singing the solemn mass of the Holy Spirit. The indulgence was proclaimed, and Gasparo dal Fosso, archbishop of Reggio di Calabria, delivered the sermon, of which Massarelli* has preserved the text.

* Angelo Massarelli (Masarello) was the secretary of the Council of Trent, and Bishop of Telese, and kept daily diaries of the council events, the original hand written volumes of which are in the Vatican library.

How perfect is this quote....?

The following, published over one hundred and fifty years ago, applies to the approach Stephen Korsman uses in the above discussion:

We cannot allow that every private Priest or member of the Church of Rome should give his own opinions merely as the standard of doctrine. We will have recourse to the oracular response of the Church, and insist that they be represented by themselves—not, however, by private individuals, but by their legal representatives. But, then, there is nothing which they dread so much as the testimony of their own Church. It is like the conscience of the wicked, which is their own worst enemy.

2. It is a principle aim of all their [Roman Catholic] controvertists to employ every mode of evasion in order to disconcert their opposers. There is even a marked difference between the tone of these Romish Divines who speak dogmatically for the instruction of their own members and that of those who attempt to answer the objections of their antagonists. With the former, all is matter of downright certainty; with the latter, all is doubt, difficulty, subterfuge, and evasion. When the faithful are to be instructed, every Priest becomes the sure depositary of the infallible decisions of an infallible Church; but when Protestants are to be confuted, the declarations of their most illustrious men are of no authority. Councils are discovered to have been but partly approved; Popes did not speak ex cathedra; Cardinals and Bishops are but private Doc- [pg. 38] tors; and who cares for the opinion of an obscure Priest or Friar? Thus nothing is so difficult as to know what the belief of Roman Catholics really is; and when a Protestant adduces their own writers as witnesses, he is frequently told that he is a misrepresenter of their church.

Aloha.net again? You keep referring to that Asventist tin foil, Martians are living among us website. Do you believe that Jesus is an angel and that Martians and Venusians are fighting a battle in your back yard? If yes then you must be a Seventh day Adventist

Phillie, phillip, The Church says this

Sunday - fulfillment of the sabbath

2175 Sunday is expressly distinguished from the sabbath which it follows chronologically every week; for Christians its ceremonial observance replaces that of the sabbath. In Christ’s Passover, Sunday fulfills the spiritual truth of the Jewish sabbath and announces man’s eternal rest in God

So the church categorically states that Sabbath is distinct from the Lord’s day, Domenica.

Don’t you realise by how how much your aloha.net Adventist non Christian cult lies?

Cronos: I'm going to attack this website Phil keeps referring to in hopes no one pays attention to what it actually SAYS.

Catholics: Hey, those Protestant Reformers are kooks. don't believe what they say about us being the Antichrist power. Instead, look at our theories on preterism and futurism.

There are literally thousands of quotes from the Catholic church stating they CHANGED the seventh-day-Sabbath to Sunday, by their own power, without a single command to do so by Christ or any apostle. You saying anything to refute YOUR OWN CHURCH’S MARK OF AUTHORITY is nothing short of clownish and moronic. You might as well tell the world that the Catholic church doesn’t have a “gay” problem.

Catholic Church: “The (Roman Catholic) Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday.” The Catholic Universe Bulletin, August 14, 1942, p. 4.

Comment “Sunday is founded, not of scripture, but on tradition, and is distinctly a Catholic institution. As there is no scripture for the transfer of the day of rest from the last to the first day of the week, Protestants ought to keep their Sabbath on Saturday and thus leave Catholics in full possession of Sunday.” Catholic Record, September 17, 1893.

“Sunday is our mark or authority...the church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.” Catholic Record of London, Ontario, September 1, 1923.

“Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change (Saturday Sabbath to Sunday) was her act...And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things.” H.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons.

“Protestants...accept Sunday rather than Saturday as the day for public worship after the Catholic Church made the change...But the Protestant mind does not seem to realize that...In observing the Sunday, they are accepting the authority of the spokesman for the church, the Pope.” Our Sunday Visitor, February 15, 1950.

(The last quote sums up the MOTB issue perfectly. I recognize God’s authority. You recognize the authority of the Catholic church, which is actually Satan’s authority.)

S.C. Mosna, Storia della Domenica (1969): 366-367:

Not the Creator of the Universe in Genesis 2:1-3, but the Catholic Church “can claim the honor of having granted man a pause to his work every seven days.”

(Cronos, that’s pure blasphemy. No way around it.)

Cardinal John Newman, An Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine (London: Basil Montague Pickering, 1878): 373:

The use of temples, and these dedicated to particular saints, and ornamented on occasions with branches of trees; incense, lamps, and candles; votive offerings on recovery from illness; holy water; asylums; holydays and seasons…are all of pagan origin and sanctified by their adoption into the Church.
