Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 79

Psalm 79

A psalm of Asaph.

1 O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance;
    they have defiled your holy temple,
    they have reduced Jerusalem to rubble.
2 They have left the dead bodies of your servants
    as food for the birds of the sky,
    the flesh of your own people for the animals of the wild.
3 They have poured out blood like water
    all around Jerusalem,
    and there is no one to bury the dead.
4 We are objects of contempt to our neighbors,
    of scorn and derision to those around us.

5 How long, Lord? Will you be angry forever?
    How long will your jealousy burn like fire?
6 Pour out your wrath on the nations
    that do not acknowledge you,
on the kingdoms
    that do not call on your name;
7 for they have devoured Jacob
    and devastated his homeland.

8 Do not hold against us the sins of past generations;
    may your mercy come quickly to meet us,
    for we are in desperate need.
9 Help us, God our Savior,
    for the glory of your name;
deliver us and forgive our sins
    for your name’s sake.
10 Why should the nations say,
    “Where is their God?”

Before our eyes, make known among the nations
    that you avenge the outpoured blood of your servants.
11 May the groans of the prisoners come before you;
    with your strong arm preserve those condemned to die.
12 Pay back into the laps of our neighbors seven times
    the contempt they have hurled at you, Lord.
13 Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture,
    will praise you forever;
from generation to generation
    we will proclaim your praise.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Blessed Are You, Oh LORD, Our God,
King Of The Universe,
Who Has given us this Day,
This Moment,
And Has Brought us Together for Your Purpose.

We Bring the Sacrifice of Praise
Into the House of The LORD,
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God.

As we contemplate the words of Your Psalmist Asaph,
Who laments the Destruction of Your Holy Sanctuary,
We feel these same words rising in our throats.
How Long, Oh LORD?
Will You allow The enemy of Our Souls mock Your Name forever?

For You are Good,
And Your Mercy Endures Forever.
We Plead That Your Salvation
and Your Word
Will Go Forth and Conquer The Evil One.

Father, let that which the enemy has done,
to Your Name, and Your People,
Return to his own bosom.
In accordance with Your Word.

You are not bound by Time and Space;
You See the End from the Beginning
And the Beginning from The End!

LORD we thank You for Your Precious Holy Word,
which You have caused to be preserved so impeccably through the ages!

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

In The Omega Glory, an episode from Deason 2 of the Original "STAR TREK" series, the Founding Documents , though garbled, are considered "sacred". It isn't until Kirk is able to decipher the "Holy Words" as the preamble to the US Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, and the Pledge to the Flag that he realizes the planet had suffered a takeover by Communists (who look suspiciously like the Red Chinese), and that the "Yangs" (who look very American) had to go underground, taking their founding documents with them. The subsequent centuries caused the words of the documents to become a garbled memory, held sacred by the "rebels".

Over 50 years ago, I heard some incredible music wafting across the lake where we spent the summer. I followed the sound of this awesome, bluesy, music and found out it was coming from (Dreamboat!) Louie's house. "WHO is that?" I exclaimed. Louie replied that it was the magnificent Double Album "Van Morrison Live in London". I immediately ran across the property to the rental cottage where my family was staying and grabbed my Dad's heavy ROBERTS STEREO REEL-TO-REEL TAPE RECORDER and schlepped it over to Louie's house. I had no idea what was on the tape that was already on the machine (probably The Boston Pops, as Dad recorded them off WCRB every Saturday night), but I meticulously recorded all four sides of Louie's Vinyl onto a 7" reel of quarter-inch tape. I became an instant fan of Van-the-Man, and wore the tape out playing it.

Years went by. The Double Album was hard to find, but my brother Tom managed to get a copy of it. And so, I borrowed the Album to record it again, this time onto cassette (it took two.)

Somehow, I forgot to return the Vinyl to my Brother Tom.

Years went by. Cassettes fell from favor. Now it was CD's. People got rid of their Vinyl. For a long time, it was impossible to make CD's in your own home, but then came CD Burners that became the integral part of a home computer. (There was a brief foray into the 12-bit Mini-Disc, but it never caught on.) Dad had it all, Vinyl, Reel-to-Reel, Cassettes, CD's VCR, and DVD, but Tom's Van Morrison Vinyl Album sat, forgotten, somewhere in the back of a closet full my "stuff". Then I moved to Florida, taking all my "stuff" with me.

In Florida, I designed and constructed my own recording studio, and was able to produce and publish CDs for my Vocal Students. One of my hobbies was to take old cassettes, records, tapes and other media and transfer it all to a CD. I didn't make money doing this, because of copyright restrictions, but was just helping folks make their old memories playable on new equipment. It was fun to sit and reminisce with people as we consolidated their old stuff together.

Well, the Powers-That-Be slowly began to realize that by making CD production available to the hoi-polloi, they were cutting their own throats. People were able to make their own music without having to go through the Big Record Companies, and market their CDs on the Internet. New, Independent Record Companies (called "Indies") began to flourish. A site similar to Amazon, but for CDs rather than Books (called "CD Baby") became a place where one could buy CDs without ever having to deal with the big corporations. Something HAD to be done!

When I got the call to come back to MA to take care of Mom, I got rid of everything in one week. I dismantled all the equipment in the recording studio and gave it all to my friend who owns a Thrift Store in Deerfield Beach. I could see the writing on the wall, that soon, CDs would be rendered obsolete by the big corporations, and that music would only be available to buy as a download off the internet onto a smart phone or other "device". I wasn't too far from the truth, as now you can't seem to buy a computer with a CD Burner in it. That's one of those things that make you say "Hmmmmmm".

Anyway, I drove back to New England with my car, my guitar, my bass, my Harley, and Lynn-DAH-The-Dawg. Along with a few bits of clothing, I had the Vinyl Album "Van Morrison Live in London", which I dutifully returned to my Brother after hanging onto it for half a century.

Tom looked at the album, which was in pristine condition, and exclaimed, "ML, I wished you had taken care of ALL my Vinyl!"

Now, what does this have to do with anything? Well, it seems that neither Tom nor I are "Luddites" when it comes to Vinyl. Suddenly, it's back in style. Instead of $7.98, which is what I paid for Classic Albums back in 1970, remakes go for $24.99. Actual ORIGINAL Vinyl in pristine condition, of certain iconic Albums such as Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, or the Beatles White Album, can go as high as $100.00. Since one needs a turntable to play these records, they have started manufacturing them again, but some are equipped with Bluetooth and have Internets access.(NOOOOOOO!!!! THAT'S NOT THE POINT!!!!)

Recently, Van Morrison has released a great Double Album. In his mid-seventies, Van has paid his dues and is absolutely disgusted with "Woke Cancel Culture". The double album is full of the same type of bouncy, bluesy, music I heard wafting across Oldham Pond in the sixties from Louie's(RIP) speakers, but the lyrics sound like Van-the-Man is a member of Free Republic! I wonder what his screen name is? When the release of this new CD was announced on FR, someone posted IS IT AVAILABLE ON VINYL YET?

Now, what do these stories have in common? Like the Star Trek episode, we are seeing a culture war between the Left and the Right. In the TV Show, the Communists had gained the ascendancy, while the rebels held to the original Founding Documents. They had, however, forgotten the actual meaning of the "Sacred Words" and were reduced to just reciting them without understanding. The original meaning had been lost because the sounds of the words had been distorted.

The Battle between Vinyl and Digital Downloads is actually the battle between Analogue and Digital. Vinyl is something you can hold in your hands. There are artwork, lyrics, and commentary printed on the Album Jacket. With great care, you slit open the shrink wrap, careful not to tear it, and extract the inner sleeve. Sometimes, there is more artwork on the inner sleeve, so you look at that for a while. The shrink-wrap, cardboard, paper, and ink all have a distinctive aroma. Then you take out the actual record, holding it carefully between your thumb and forefinger so as not to touch the grooves. Vinyl is a petroleum product, and so, smells different from plastic. You place the needle in the groove, and out comes the music, with full stereophonic separation, the full range of frequencies, and WARMTH. The WARMTH can't be explained scientifically. It's just there.

In CDs, the sound is compressed. The frequencies are still all there, but they have been squashed together to fit a narrower bandwidth. It doesn't have the WARMTH of Vinyl. That's not "scientific" either. It just IS.

The Yangs in Star Trek were reciting a "squashed" version of the Founding Documents. The files had been "corrupted". The words were there, but had no meaning. Captain Kirk had to explain to them what their own "Sacred Words" actually meant. Our own Founding Documents are in beautiful cursive handwriting. It says what it says and can't be altered. What better way to "corrupt the files" than to eschew the teaching of cursive in our schools, digitize the Founding Documents, and then "selectively edit" them to deny people their rights without them even knowing it?

The same can be said of the Bible. I love that I can search a Passage, and find it online in 100 different translations. But I urge you all...Don't throw out your PRINTED Bibles. Better yet, commit the Word to Memory, and hide it in your heart, in case the PTB decide that Books, along with Vinyl, are obsolete.

Great Lesson! Love that episode of Star Trek, my favorite next to Bread and Circuses.

I’ve grown to prefer reading paper books and taking notes on paper—it sticks to me longer. Though it’s nice to write with a word processor and info-snack online and search for Bible verses that way.
