Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 60

Psalm 60[a]

For the director of music. To the tune of “The Lily of the Covenant.” A miktam[b] of David. For teaching. When he fought Aram Naharaim[c] and Aram Zobah,[d] and when Joab returned and struck down twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

1 You have rejected us, God, and burst upon us;
    you have been angry—now restore us!
2 You have shaken the land and torn it open;
    mend its fractures, for it is quaking.
3 You have shown your people desperate times;
    you have given us wine that makes us stagger.
4 But for those who fear you, you have raised a banner
    to be unfurled against the bow.[e]

5 Save us and help us with your right hand,
    that those you love may be delivered.
6 God has spoken from his sanctuary:
    “In triumph I will parcel out Shechem
    and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth.
7 Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine;
    Ephraim is my helmet,
    Judah is my scepter.
8 Moab is my washbasin,
    on Edom I toss my sandal;
    over Philistia I shout in triumph.”

9 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
10 Is it not you, God, you who have now rejected us
    and no longer go out with our armies?
11 Give us aid against the enemy,
    for human help is worthless.
12 With God we will gain the victory,
    and he will trample down our enemies.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Pastor's Challenge to read through the Bible in a year has become quite a Blessing! While it is totally voluntary, and although not everybody is on the same page (some have lagged behind, and others have forged ahead), it has done a lot to unify and connect the Sunday Sermons and Wednesday Bible Studies. A strange incident in the Book of Judges, for example, suddenly makes sense when taught in context with something most of us have just read in the preceding week. Pastor Frank incorporates the week's readings into his sermon and I am really enjoying it.

This morning's reading was from the Book of Exodus. Now, many of us have experienced "Hitting the Wall" in Exodus right after Chapter 20, which gives us The Ten Commandments. In My Opinion, Chapter 20 is the Climax of the entire Torah.

We have read exciting stories from Creation, Cain & Abel, The Flood, The Call of Abraham, The Story of Joseph, Slavery in Egypt, The Passover, and the Exodus. We've climbed the Mountain with Moses, and God has revealed Himself. Then, after the Ten Commandments we get the smackdown! Laws, Laws, and more Laws. Lots of people stop reading here and skip ahead to Joshua. But I recommend that you keep reading. Here is what I read this morning:

Exodus 23:1-9

Laws of Justice and Mercy

1 “Do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness.
2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,
3 and do not show favoritism to a poor person in a lawsuit.
4 “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to return it.
5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help them with it.
6 “Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.
7 Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty.
8 “Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the innocent.
9 “Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt.

I am sure every person reading this can find a "Current Event" that is a violation of the Laws stated above. From publishing "Fake News", through the bribes, blackmail, railroading of the innocent, doxxing, lies, false accusation, Suppression of Truth, and even the smuggling and human trafficking at our border, we see that the Word of God being violated and lives destroyed.

Our entire World View of Right and Wrong is wrapped up in these Chapters. The current trend is to destroy the very foundation of our Civilization with something else, and by reading these difficult chapters in the Torah, we can understand who is behind the whole "movement." It is none other than the enemy of God, and, our enemy too.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!

Come and Pray

Psalm 111

1 Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
2 Great are the works of the Lord,
studied by all who delight in them.
3 Full of honour and majesty is his work,
and his righteousness endures for ever.
4 He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
the Lord is gracious and merciful.
5 He provides food for those who fear him;
he is ever mindful of his covenant.
6 He has shown his people the power of his works,
in giving them the heritage of the nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;
all his precepts are trustworthy.
8 They are established for ever and ever,
to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption to his people;
he has commanded his covenant for ever.
Holy and awesome is his name.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practise it* have a good understanding.
His praise endures for ever.

Exodus 23 gives us a good guide to test who’s on which team: God’s or team Evil.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America—may she turn back to God.

I thought the same thing as I read the verses.
