Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 57

Psalm 57[a]

For the director of music. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” Of David. A miktam.[b] When he had fled from Saul into the cave.

1 Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me,
    for in you I take refuge.
I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
    until the disaster has passed.

2 I cry out to God Most High,
    to God, who vindicates me.
3 He sends from heaven and saves me,
    rebuking those who hotly pursue me—[c]
    God sends forth his love and his faithfulness.

4 I am in the midst of lions;
    I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts—
men whose teeth are spears and arrows,
    whose tongues are sharp swords.

5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
    let your glory be over all the earth.

6 They spread a net for my feet—
    I was bowed down in distress.
They dug a pit in my path—
    but they have fallen into it themselves.

7 My heart, O God, is steadfast,
    my heart is steadfast;
    I will sing and make music.
8 Awake, my soul!
    Awake, harp and lyre!
    I will awaken the dawn.

9 I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of you among the peoples.
10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
    your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
    let your glory be over all the earth.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

This is one of those "Evening Before Postings, as I was in a car accident tonight and have to all the stuff tomorrow (Car rental, Collision repair, Insurance, etc etc etc.) I'm OK, but who knew I could be rammed in my client's driveway, after I had parked the car, turned off the ignition, taken off my seatbelt, and was just opening the door to get out and teach two students. As I was doing this normal activity, the garage door opened, the car backed out and swerved backwards into me! I suppoise the Dad was so used to backing out of his garage and swinging around that he didn't even look behind him. Of course his insurance will pay for it, but in the meantime I have to do all my stuff on the bike (unless I can get a rental). I limped the car over to my church 3 miles away, and still did the rehearsal for Sunday Morning Service. The Body shop is next door to the church, so I left the car there, left my bass in the Sanctuary, and bummed a ride home from the Worship Leader. I have to be at the Body Shop at 8:30 tomorrow, hence this evening's thread.

This was so crazy and unexpected. But that is how life goes.

The Psalms of David often have subtitles that explain why he wrote them. Because of these subtitles, we can match the events in 1 & 2 Samuel to David's actual prayers. We see him running from Saul, getting married, hiding in a cave, acting like a lunatic to escape his enemies, falling into sin, repenting, rejoicing in his forgiveness, and running to God as his Refuge and Strength.

Although David was blessed with prophetic gifts, he was often startled and surprised by events. His prophecies were far in the future, concerning the Messiah, not that Saul was going to throw a spear at him while he was playing the harp!

Each startling event was dealt with by writing a Psalm. David's response to the surprises of life was PRAYER.

Likewise, in our Christian Walk, we know what is coming in "The End". Most of us have read the Book and we know God Wins. However, we don't know from one minute to the next if someone is going to back his car into you at a high rate of speed!

Be assured, though, God is never surprised by anything that happens. I am not injured, Thank God, but I have some difficult, busy days ahead. Could you say a little prayer for me? Thanks!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!

No matter what the enemy throws at you, nothing keeps you from your vows and oaths to serve the Lord! Your integrity and self sacrificing commitment is a standard for us all.

May your health spring forth speedily, may you enjoy favor from the insurance company and body shop, may God provide good weather for your necessary bike ride, may the man who ran into you find salvation from Jesus for himself and his whole family, may Penny be satisfied with less rigorous exercise and may His peace and joy overtake the inconvenience of this event which came for the purpose of proving your “shine”. We love and appreciate you in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 116

1 I love the Lord, because he has heard
my voice and my supplications.
2 Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The snares of death encompassed me;
the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:
‘O Lord, I pray, save my life!’

5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
our God is merciful.
6 The Lord protects the simple;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return, O my soul, to your rest,
for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

8 For you have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.
9 I walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.
10 I kept my faith, even when I said,
‘I am greatly afflicted’;
11 I said in my consternation,
‘Everyone is a liar.’

12 What shall I return to the Lord
for all his bounty to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord,
14 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his faithful ones.
16 O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the child of your serving-maid.
You have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice
and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!
