Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 31

Psalm 31[a]

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
    let me never be put to shame;
    deliver me in your righteousness.
2 Turn your ear to me,
    come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
    a strong fortress to save me.
3 Since you are my rock and my fortress,
    for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
4 Keep me free from the trap that is set for me,
    for you are my refuge.
5 Into your hands I commit my spirit;
    deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.

6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols;
    as for me, I trust in the Lord.
7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love,
    for you saw my affliction
    and knew the anguish of my soul.
8 You have not given me into the hands of the enemy
    but have set my feet in a spacious place.

9 Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am in distress;
    my eyes grow weak with sorrow,
    my soul and body with grief.
10 My life is consumed by anguish
    and my years by groaning;
my strength fails because of my affliction,[b]
    and my bones grow weak.
11 Because of all my enemies,
    I am the utter contempt of my neighbors
and an object of dread to my closest friends—
    those who see me on the street flee from me.
12 I am forgotten as though I were dead;
    I have become like broken pottery.
13 For I hear many whispering,
    “Terror on every side!”
They conspire against me
    and plot to take my life.

14 But I trust in you, Lord;
    I say, “You are my God.”
15 My times are in your hands;
    deliver me from the hands of my enemies,
    from those who pursue me.
16 Let your face shine on your servant;
    save me in your unfailing love.
17 Let me not be put to shame, Lord,
    for I have cried out to you;
but let the wicked be put to shame
    and be silent in the realm of the dead.
18 Let their lying lips be silenced,
    for with pride and contempt
    they speak arrogantly against the righteous.

19 How abundant are the good things
    that you have stored up for those who fear you,
that you bestow in the sight of all,
    on those who take refuge in you.
20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them
    from all human intrigues;
you keep them safe in your dwelling
    from accusing tongues.

21 Praise be to the Lord,
    for he showed me the wonders of his love
    when I was in a city under siege.
22 In my alarm I said,
    “I am cut off from your sight!”
Yet you heard my cry for mercy
    when I called to you for help.

23 Love the Lord, all his faithful people!
    The Lord preserves those who are true to him,
    but the proud he pays back in full.
24 Be strong and take heart,
    all you who hope in the Lord.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Good Evening everybody! It's Saturday Night, and time to do the Sunday Thread.

First of all, I want to thank everybody who prayed for Circlecity today. I have not heard anything, but I am accepting by Faith that God has heard our prayers and is ministering peace to our FRiend as we speak.

Today's events gave me an insight about prayer that I shall call "Praying In The Dark".

I have been a Christian for forty years, and have always prayed for anyone who requests it of me. Sometimes I hear results right away, sometimes it takes more time, and sometimes I never find out what happened after my prayers. It is completely natural and "respectable" to want to know the outcome. It is human nature! It is also human nature to want more information so that "I'll know how to pray for you!". Even with good intentions, this curiosity can easily descend into prying and even gossip. That's when we need to learn how to "Pray In The Dark". The darkness isn't a bad thing...it is just a lack of knowledge of the details.

Trust comes in knowing that God knows every detail of the situation. So even if we are "in the dark" about details, we can pray "in the light" of God's Omniscience. It actually takes more Faith to "Pray In The Dark" than it does to pray with all the facts before us.

Here's Why:

1. When we know the facts, we could get into a rap with God as to how HE can fix the problem. In fact, some of us might end up giving God advice!

2. When we know everything about the situation, we may be tempted to advise the person for whom we are praying, and tell him what HE should be doing to fix it. Thus, instead of going to God, we are didactically providing our own remedies. When we find ourselves falling into this habit, we should ask ourselves: "Did this person ask me for PRAYER? Or for ADVICE?" They are two entirely different things!

3. Finally, when we know too much, and are asking others to join us in prayer, it is very easy to descend into gossip or self-righteousness. God Forbid! None of us would ever want to do such a thing, but sometimes it DOES happen.

When we are asked for prayer, it is best not to interrogate the the person. Some people will share very little information, and others will totally "spill the beans". Nevertheless, UNLESS that person is asking for counseling or advice, it is best to keep our opinions to ourselves, and pray in faith and trust that God's Will be done.

The Book of Job is considered the oldest story in the Bible, and it addresses this very thing. At first, Job's "friends" sat with him in silence, comforting Job during his time of devastating loss. Job does not ask for advice, but suddenly the "friends" barrage him, lecture him, and berate him for chapter after chapter until finally, God intervenes. The rebuke from the Almighty is earth-shattering. Centuries later, Job's "friends" are held up as the worst example of Bronze-Age-Jerks ever assembled, and Job is held up as the Ultimate Model of Patience and Righteousness.

Just think how different it would have been if Job's "friends had learned how to "Pray in the Dark"!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

God Bless America!

Amen.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. (Rom. 8:26)

Good guidelines. This post is a keeper.

Many have been praying in the dark for Circlecity.

Likewise for our country and those in power, who seem so bent on evil.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Psalm 62

To the leader: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

1 For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall never be shaken.

3 How long will you assail a person,
will you batter your victim, all of you,
as you would a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
4 Their only plan is to bring down a person of prominence.
They take pleasure in falsehood;
they bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse.
Selah

5 For God alone my soul waits in silence,
for my hope is from him.
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my deliverance and my honour;
my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.

8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.
Selah

9 Those of low estate are but a breath,
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
10 Put no confidence in extortion,
and set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

11 Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
12 and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.
For you repay to all
according to their work.

“Praying in the Dark” is very hard to do, especially as a Mom. That’s because it’s Mom’s JOB to fix things and make it all better. Something you want to do naturally.

Praying with you for your son!
