Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 21
Psalm 21[a]
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
1 The king rejoices in your strength, Lord.
How great is his joy in the victories you give!
2 You have granted him his heart’s desire
and have not withheld the request of his lips.[b]
3 You came to greet him with rich blessings
and placed a crown of pure gold on his head.
4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
length of days, for ever and ever.
5 Through the victories you gave, his glory is great;
you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.
6 Surely you have granted him unending blessings
and made him glad with the joy of your presence.
7 For the king trusts in the Lord;
through the unfailing love of the Most High
he will not be shaken.
8 Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies;
your right hand will seize your foes.
9 When you appear for battle,
you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
and his fire will consume them.
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
their posterity from mankind.
11 Though they plot evil against you
and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed.
12 You will make them turn their backs
when you aim at them with drawn bow.
13 Be exalted in your strength, Lord;
we will sing and praise your might.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God!
Sanctified and Holy is Your Most hallowed Name.
How Excellent, How Wonderful,
How Perfect You Are!
My heart is Overwhelmed With Your Glory,
Your Magnificence,
and Your Power!
When I think of how Awesome You Are,
Of How You Transcend Time and Space,
Of How You Created Everything That Is and Ever Was,
Of How You Tell History From the Beginning to The End
and the End to The Beginning,
Of How You Give us a Glimpse into Your Infinite Mind
Through Your Holy and Unchanging Word,
How You Are Faithful To Your Promises Even When We Fall Away,
And How You Fulfill Every Jot and Tittle of Your Precepts,
When we ourselves fall so short of the target,
I just have to stop everything,
And say, "How Great and AWESOME YOU ARE!"
Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.
LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.
We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 110
Of David. A Psalm.
1 The Lord says to my lord,
‘Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies your footstool.’
2 The Lord sends out from Zion
your mighty sceptre.
Rule in the midst of your foes.
3 Your people will offer themselves willingly
on the day you lead your forces
on the holy mountains.*
From the womb of the morning,
like dew, your youth* will come to you.
4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind,
‘You are a priest for ever according to the order of Melchizedek.’*
5 The Lord is at your right hand;
he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.
6 He will execute judgement among the nations,
filling them with corpses;
he will shatter heads
over the wide earth.
7 He will drink from the stream by the path;
therefore he will lift up his head

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Blue Hill Avenue, Dorchester, MA, was a very interesting place in the Mid-20th Century. On one side of the "Ave" lived a large population of Irish Catholics, so entrenched that if someone said they came from Dorchester, the correct response was "What Parish?"
The othe side of the "Ave" was Boston's largest Jewish Neighborhood. Kosher Delis and Meat markets lined the "Ave", with Hebrew and Yiddish Newspapers filling the racks outside. My Dad's Barber and many other neighbors were Holocaust Survivors, and the horrors of WW2 were so recent that they were still a part of our lives.
One neighbor, a nice man who had lost his entire family in the camps, had made a new life for himself in America. He had a nice business, a new wife, and a new family. One day, he drove to pick up wife and kids at a store on the "Ave" where it bordered Milton. They had just gotten off the Trolley after a day of shopping in Boston. As he was approaching the sidewalk, another car came careening around the corner and crashed up onto the curb, killing the man's entire family right before his eyes.
The entire community, Irish and Jewish, grieved with this man. I remember it as if it happened yesterday, even though it was over 60 years ago. I was only 7 or 8, but I remember asking God WHY?
I am currently reading the Book of Job in my devotional Bible Readings. Job's "friends" are full of advice and philosophy, but they don't have a clue as to the depths of Job's suffering. It would have been better if they just grieved in silence WITH Job instead of questioning and accusing him. But that's just human nature, I guess.
Today is Holy Thursday on the Western Calendar. The Jewish Passover is also this week, and both commemorations beg the question: Why did Jesus have to die? Why did those Egyptian Children have to die? Why did that car come around that corner on that painful day? WHAT is going on in this crazy world?
Theologians have argued these things for 5000 years, and I am not going to be able to answer them successfully. And yet, the words of Job echo through the ages:
"I KNOW MY REDEEMER LIVES."
