Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

During the 16 years that I lived in Florida, I lost touch with the crazy Sports Scene in Boston. Boston Fans love their teams, even when they lose, and that was the case for most of my life. My whole family are RABID Red Sox Fans, and my two brothers love the New England Patriots. However, neither team did that well for YEARS, until, apparently, I moved away to another state. Then, the Red Sox started winning World Series (several times during my sojourn elsewhere) and The Patriots kept winning the Superbowl.

Then I moved back, the Red Sox are lousy again, and the Pats have lost Tom Brady and the Gronk. But, IT'S NOT MY FAULT! I dindu nuffin. There is NO "Curse of the Biker Bambina". Things just...happen. LOL. And, wouldn't you know, Brady and Gronk went TO Florida right after I moved back to Boston.

Unlike a lot of preachers, I don't use sports analogies very often, but Today's Passage about "The Sheep and the Goats" brought a picture to my mind. On the wall of a popular Sports Bar, where my sister and her her husband were playing the music, there was a huge portrait of Tom Brady with the letters GOAT superimposed at the bottom. Actually, there were several pictures of Brady, all of which identified him as a GOAT. I didn't understand it at all! Brady didn't have horns (at least visible ones) and I didn't consider "GOAT" to be much of a compliment. In our culture, the GOAT can be a deviant old man, a satanic symbol, the victim of a scam, and any number of other negative things. I finally asked a companion why these portraits were calling Tom Brady a "GOAT".

"Whoever designed those posters left out the periods!" quipped my friend. "It's supposed to be G.O.A.T., and it stands for 'GREATEST OF ALL TIME'!"

Later, I began to see the acronym again and again, either referring to sports figures, politicians, or entertainers, so I guess it's a thing.

But I still cling to the Biblical definition of the GOAT as one who, in the Last Judgement, will find that he has fallen short, when the REAL "Greatest Of All Time" separates the Sheep from the Goats.
