Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds
.
Ezekiel 34:12
12 As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.
New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)
When Ezekiel speaks of the Ingathering of the Sheep, he shows the Shepherd going out and searching for them.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

As some of you may already know, I had a Bible-Reading program that included 8 bookmarks, so I called it "The Super-Eight" (with apologies to Kodak!). Anyway, I had been reading the Super-Eight since 9/11/01, so I can only imagine how many times I have read the whole Bible in nearly twenty years. Around Christmas time, my Pastor came up with a Bible-Reading Program that was so similar that I was able to modify Super-Eight to fit, using the same bookmarks.
The programs covered the same categories of Scripture (Torah, History, Poetry, Prophets, Gospels, Epistles) but were arranged in a daily program so that one would read much bigger portions of a single book each day. Unfortunately, that left the Books of Acts, Revelation, and the Minor Prophets till the end of 2021, and I LIKE those particular Books! So I figured out how to get those extras into the program while not neglecting the other. This probably wouldn't work for a lot of people, because it would be too much reading, but remember...my SECOND Favorite Book is Moby Dick!
Thursday is Poetry Day, and we are currently in the Book of Job. Now, even for me, who revels in the dark soliloquies of Captain Ahab, Job can be a slog, especially when his so-called "friends" are speaking. Today, starting with Chapter 15, it was particularly harsh. The speaker is Eliphaz the Timnite, and he comes across as the most sanctimonious, self-righteous, judgemental, hateful JERK in the entire bible. As I have said in some earlier writings, "some people just need slappin'". Anyway, Job's answer is in Chapter 16, and it just leaped of the page at me:
19 Even now my witness is in heaven;
my advocate is on high.
20 My intercessor is my friend[a]
as my eyes pour out tears to God;
21 on behalf of a man he pleads with God
as one pleads for a friend.
I was so excited when I read that, I dashed a text to my Pastor that said:
"WOW! HE'S TALKING ABOUT JESUS!"
All of us have encountered "Eliphaz the Timnite" in our lives. Sometimes they can be "friends", people from church, or even members of our own household. Words hurt more when they are from people you care about. But we have a Friend Who sticks closer than a Brother. We have a Shepherd Who guards His Sheep. We have an Advocate, an Intercessor, and a Dear Friend, named Jesus.
And even the Book of Job, which is considered the oldest Book in the Bible, gets it.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 47
To the leader. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.
1 Clap your hands, all you peoples;
shout to God with loud songs of joy.
2 For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome,
a great king over all the earth.
3 He subdued peoples under us,
and nations under our feet.
4 He chose our heritage for us,
the pride of Jacob whom he loves.
Selah
5 God has gone up with a shout,
the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the king of all the earth;
sing praises with a psalm.*
8 God is king over the nations;
God sits on his holy throne.
9 The princes of the peoples gather
as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
he is highly exalted.

Find myself in tears here. I have experienced both sides of this coin. Needing Jesus’s comfort from the words of others, and praying His comfort for those I have hurt. God is Good all the time, He is the GOD of ALL COMFORT. Praise His Name. Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem. Thank you.

Amen. In my 40 years as a Christian, I can look back at times when I was a Job, and when I was an Eliphaz.
Thank you for your sincere transparency on this thread!
