Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

Acts 20

25 “Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you. 27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised,
Holy and Righteous,
So Perfect in Justice and Purity,
Yet Abounding In Compassion and Love!

And yet, here we are,
In an exile of sorts,
Surrounded by bloodshed, depravity, repression, and lies,
Struggling daily to keep Truth Alive,
When sometime it seems the Whole World is Against us!
Sometimes we just want to "Hang up our Harp in The Tree",
When some boorish, godless person says some snide, sarcastic thing.
After all, HOW can I Praise The Lord, When My Heart is Breaking?
How Can I Sing the Lord's Song in a Strange Land?
And yet, We Believe in You,
And we look to You for our Answer.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Last year, Actor Sean Connery passed away. He was an excellent actor who played many roles in his long career, but is best known for his portrayal of James Bond, Agent 007. James Bond fought against many International Villains, and when the writers ran out of the usual Nazis and Communists, a new character was invented: The Evil, International, Mad Super Villain. Some of these enemies were so over-the-top, that the genre of "James-Bond-Villain" has become a stereotype in and of itself. It came to a peak with Mike Meyers's "Dr. Evil" but has been parodied many other times.

Far more dangerous than the Bond Villain in his secret mountain lair, complete with sharks and lasers, is the affable, charming, and seemingly vulnerable "Wolf In Sheep's Clothing". These type of "secret agents" are far more dangerous than Dr. Evil could ever be. Sneaky and manipulative, these villains are not instantly recognizable as evil, and go from church to church, house to house, and family to family, winning confidences and then leaving a trail of destruction.

Although everybody wants to love and be loved, Christians are especially vulnerable to "Wolves-in-Sheep's Clothing". We are good at detecting the "Dr. Evils" but not as good at detecting the Wolves. We WANT people to be saved, we WANT to help those in need, and we WANT it to work out for the best. In fact, we are COMMANDED to love one another.

But God did not leave us without a warming. By using the imagery of Lambs, Sheep, Shepherds, and Wolves, God has equipped us to guard and protect the flock. We have learned that a Shepherd has to be more than just a caretaker. He needs to be a Leader, a Warrior, a Comforter, and a Protector. He needs compassion, discernment, and courage to be ready to lay down his life for his sheep. It's a Calling, not a Career.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
