Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

.

Amos 3:11-12

11 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“An enemy will overrun your land,
    pull down your strongholds
    and plunder your fortresses.”

12 This is what the Lord says:

“As a shepherd rescues from the lion’s mouth
    only two leg bones or a piece of an ear,
so will the Israelites living in Samaria be rescued,
    with only the head of a bed
    and a piece of fabric[a] from a couch.[b]”

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

The Prophet Amos draws upon his actual experiences as a Shepherd, when describing the Remnant of Israel after the forthcoming invasion.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven
Blessed Are You,
Oh LORD, Our God,
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
El Shaddai,
The All-Sufficient One!

Oh, Holy, Holy, Holy are You,
LORD, God of Power and Might!
May You Always be The Provider
and Banner For Your People.
May Your Children never be ashamed
or afraid to Lift Your Banner High!

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Some of you may recall stories in this Thread about a Samoyed Dog named Preston. He was my first Dog, so I didn't have a clue as to how to raise puppies, but this was compounded by the unfortunate fact that Preston wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. As a matter of fact, he was a whole sandwich short of a Happy Meal, but he was smiley, affectionate, and drop-dead GORGEOUS. Preston was terrified by Thunder and would become very destructive if left alone during a thunderstorm. I have already shared the "Preston and the Gibson Guitar" story with you, but Today's reading in the Prophet Amos reminded me of another one of Preston's Adventures in Total Destruction.

While sitting in a sea of desks in Boston's Prudential Tower, I could see the thunderclouds forming over my neighborhood. Then the storm raged all afternoon. I shuddered to think of Preston all alone in our apartment. I couldn't imagine what he would destroy today.

At 5:00PM I left work and rode the trolley home. I changed to a bus at Forest Hills and trudged through the rain to the top of the hill where I lived. I put the key in the door, and opened it. Preston did not come running to greet me...as he was hiding in guilt and shame. I switched on the light, and saw my entire living room filled with shreds of leather and foam from the couch, which Preston had gutted to the springs.

After the appropriate amount of screaming ended, I began to pick up the pieces. Somebody had given me a bolt of nubby upholstery fabric, and now I knew just what to do with it. I would reupholster the couch! After all, I had a Pfaff Industrial Sewing Machine with TWO motors (one to run the needle, the other to feed the cloth, as I was a quilter), and my Nana had taught me how to make patterns out of newspaper, so I CAN DO THIS!

I had to get the dimensions of the couch and the shapes for the pattern. I found some shreds of the leather, taped them together matching the tears, and used that shape to cut the pattern. One piece at a time, I collected the remnants, traced them, and cut out the fabric. I eventually was able to reupholster the entire couch, and it came out great, but I burned out BOTH motors in the Pfaff Industrial Sewing Machine. I replaced it with a Singer that cost half as much and lasted twice as long.

Amos's Thundering Prophecy about the fall of Israel at the hands of Assyria is a harsh and frightening one. He predicts horrible destruction, so complete that all will be left will be a couple of sheep bones and a remnant from a shredded couch. How can anyone fix that?

Remember that the nubby upholstery fabric was a free gift to me. I didn't think I had any use for it, so it sat in the back room for years. Then, sudden destruction came upon the couch, and all that was left was a shredded remnant. I was able to use that remnant as a pattern to make a NEW couch, thanks to the roll of free fabric.

The sewing machine that had cost $1100.00 couldn't keep up with the nubby fabric which overwhelmed the motors. (there is no way Law can compete with Grace!)

And I had mercy on Preston, and loved him all the same.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!

Psalm 61

To the leader: with stringed instruments. Of David.

1 Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth I call to you,
when my heart is faint.

Lead me to the rock
that is higher than I;
3 for you are my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.

4 Let me abide in your tent for ever,
find refuge under the shelter of your wings.
Selah
5 For you, O God, have heard my vows;
you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.

6 Prolong the life of the king;
may his years endure to all generations!
7 May he be enthroned for ever before God;
appoint steadfast love and faithfulness to watch over him!

8 So I will always sing praises to your name,
as I pay my vows day after day.

And how many couches, sofas, davenports, settees, love seats, and hide-a-beds have we trashed in God's house? Yet still He loves us. He even encourages our praying to Him, so I proclaim loudly, AMEN!

My thoughts exactly...and God can repair our brokenness in a simple way beyond our own foolish thinking and plans WE think He will use.
