Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds
.
Joel 1
Has not the food been cut off
before our very eyes—
joy and gladness
from the house of our God?
17 The seeds are shriveled
beneath the clods.[a]
The storehouses are in ruins,
the granaries have been broken down,
for the grain has dried up.
18 How the cattle moan!
The herds mill about
because they have no pasture;
even the flocks of sheep are suffering.
19 To you, Lord, I call,
for fire has devoured the pastures in the wilderness
and flames have burned up all the trees of the field.
20 Even the wild animals pant for you;
the streams of water have dried up
and fire has devoured the pastures in the wilderness.
New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)
Even though Joel is speaking about livestock, his description of the End Times resonates even with us City Folks.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
We Come into Your Glorious Presence With Singing,
And into Your Courts With Praise!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD;
You Alone Are The Most High,
The Great I AM.
God of Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob,
We Worship You and You Alone,
Creator of All That Is,
And Sovereign LORD of All Nature,
Which is Under Your Control at All Times.
How conceited we humans can be,
Thinking that we somehow can control the mighty forces
That are Yours and Yours Alone!
What hubris, to think that somehow we are little gods
who can influence and change the course of climate,
history,
or Your Will!
LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.
We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

In Western Music we have two types of scales and chords, designated as "Major and Minor". This is not a value judgement, as they are equally important in the production of music. Major Scales and Chords sound bright, cheery, and triumphant. Minor Scales and Chords sound dark, mysterious, and romantic. Both Major and Minor Chords show up in the chord progressions of both Major and Minor Scales, and they are more-or-less equal in usage. One can't imagine one without the other. All Major Chords would sound childish, while all Minor Chords would be downright depressing! The thing that makes a scale or chord "minor" is that the third tone is shortened (or diminished) by one half-step. That changes the entire sound and flavor of the chord.
In the Holy Bible, we find different categories of Prophets. The Major Prophets, who wrote very long books, are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. (The Jewish Scriptures also include the Books of The Prophet Samuel in the "Prophets" Category). We also know of great Prophets Elijah and Elisha, who didn't write whole books of their own, but are the Stars of the History Sections of Scripture.
Then we have the Twelve "Minor Prophets". They are not "minor" in stature, but merely in the length of their books. Like a minor chord, they are equal in power, but diminished in length. They came from many walks in life, and their writings were just as familiar to First Century Jews as the "Major Prophets". We saw this when the Magi visited Herod, and Herod consulted his experts on the Town of Messiah's Birth. The answer was found in Micah, a "Minor" Prophet. (Micah 5:2). On the day of Pentecost, when Peter was filled with The Holy Spirit and gave his first sermon, he quoted from The Prophet Joel(Acts 2). Joel is the Minor Prophet we will look at today in our look at Sheep, Lambs, and Shepherds in the Bible.
In Joel's prophecy about the end of days, he speaks of famine, drought, and suffering. Right away, he uses livestock and pastures to illustrate his point. Why it's so bad, even the SHEEP are suffering! Sheep are known to be able to withstand much harsher conditions than cattle, so what Joel is seeing in his vision must be pretty BAD. However, this suffering is followed by an amazing outpouring of God's Holy Spirit. "Pouring Out" indicates abundance, Joy, and Plenty. Joel's minor chords of famine and need are followed by major chords of Glory.
All that from a "Minor" Prophet!

Psalm 146
1 Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
2 I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God all my life long.
3 Do not put your trust in princes,
in mortals, in whom there is no help.
4 When their breath departs, they return to the earth;
on that very day their plans perish.
5 Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord their God,
6 who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them;
who keeps faith for ever;
7 who executes justice for the oppressed;
who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets the prisoners free;
8 the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
the Lord loves the righteous.
9 The Lord watches over the strangers;
he upholds the orphan and the widow,
but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
10 The Lord will reign for ever,
your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the Lord!
