Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

Psalm 80

For the director of music. To the tune of “The Lilies of the Covenant.” Of Asaph. A psalm.

1 Hear us, Shepherd of Israel,
    you who lead Joseph like a flock.
You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,
    shine forth 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.
Awaken your might;
    come and save us.

3 Restore us, O God;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

4 How long, Lord God Almighty,
    will your anger smolder
    against the prayers of your people?
5 You have fed them with the bread of tears;
    you have made them drink tears by the bowlful.
6 You have made us an object of derision[b] to our neighbors,
    and our enemies mock us.

7 Restore us, God Almighty;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

8 You transplanted a vine from Egypt;
    you drove out the nations and planted it.
9 You cleared the ground for it,
    and it took root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shade,
    the mighty cedars with its branches.
11 Its branches reached as far as the Sea,[c]
    its shoots as far as the River.[d]

12 Why have you broken down its walls
    so that all who pass by pick its grapes?
13 Boars from the forest ravage it,
    and insects from the fields feed on it.
14 Return to us, God Almighty!
    Look down from heaven and see!
Watch over this vine,
15     the root your right hand has planted,
    the son[e] you have raised up for yourself.

16 Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire;
    at your rebuke your people perish.
17 Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand,
    the son of man you have raised up for yourself.
18 Then we will not turn away from you;
    revive us, and we will call on your name.

19 Restore us, Lord God Almighty;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
The Earth is Yours, and The Fullness Thereof,
You Have Created It,
and All It Contains.
It Is You,
The Eternal,
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
Omnipresent,
Blessed Are You,
Oh LORD, Our God,
King of The Universe,
Who has Brought us to this Day!

You Are The SAME, Yesterday, Today, and Forever,
And You Alone Are Worthy Of Praise and Worship!

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Penny-The-Pitbull has a very funny behavior that is a Daily Habit. She has a lovely bed that is plush and comfortable for her Senior-Dog bones, but she prefers the Living Room Couch. So here's how it goes:

1. Mom settles into bed, so Penny curls up on her bed. As soon as Mom's breathing indicates that Mom is asleep, Penny moves her bed right into the doorway, facing down the hall. This could be a guard position, or to insure proper feng shui, or it could be ingeniously designed to trip Mom if she has to get up at night to go to the bathroom.

2. In the wee hours of the morning, when Mom is deep in REM sleep, Penny abandons her bed in the doorway and heads to the Couch. She does not realize that her initial shake awakens Mom...so Mom knows exactly what's going on. Once Penny is asleep on the couch, Mom moves the bed out of the doorway so she can use the bathroom without tripping over it.

3. Just before Dawn, Penny returns to the bedroom and moves her bed back to the feng shui position. This is perhaps to fool Mom into thinking that she never left her side all night.

4. When the first ray of sunshine peeks through the drapes, Penny moves her bed into the sunbeam. All through the day, she follows that sunbeam, and plops down on the rug wherever it lands. On gloomy days, she goes to the spot and lies there, even though she can't see the sunbeam.

Without stretching the analogy too much, this pattern of behavior could be compared to our relationship with God.

1. Somewhere in Penny's Pre-Rescue past, the Couch was forbidden, so she only gets on it when she thinks I'm not looking. Could it be that she waits till she THINKS I'm asleep before indulging in this "sin", and makes sure she is back in her own bed before I wake up? Maybe.

2. How about the re-positioning of the bed right in the doorway? Do we sometimes insist on our own way of doing things and are actually causing an OBSTRUCTION to God's work in our lives? Needless to say, if I tripped over Penny in the night, she would get hurt as much as I would. Maybe even more. And even if I instantly forgave her, she would still feel guilty about hurting me.

3. How many times do people think "If I just say this prayer, or do this particular religious duty, then God just HAS to do what I ask him to do!" Well, no. That's like sneaking off the Couch before Dawn and getting back onto her own bed, thinking God didn't notice!

4. Finally, we have the Sunbeam. It's there all the time even on gloomy days when we can't see it. Penny enjoys the Light and Life-Giving Warmth, and will follow the Sunbeam wherever it goes. She'll leave her comfy bed and even the forbidden Couch to bask in that Sunbeam. When we stay in constant communion with God, by seeking Him, and Following Him, we will still know Him even when He hides His Face from us.

Sometimes I think dogs are smarter than People!

Today happens to be the anniversary of the 1917 capture of Jerusalem by the British from the Ottoman Turks.

Twenty thousand Turkish soldiers were killed, along with 3600 Brits and allies.

What is amazing about that day was that the British General (Allenby) had a surname that sounded suspiciously like the Arabic word for “Prophet of G-d”.

In my own personal view, the event you referenced has immense eschatological significance.

I spent 3 weeks in Jerusalem in 1984 and have NEVER forgotten it.
