INTERNATIONAL | President Recep Tayyip Erdogan works to Islamize Christian sites
TURKEY: The Turkish Islamic Foundation destroyed the historic St. Georgios Greek Orthodox Church in Bursa on Wednesday, seven years after local officials transferred the property to the group’s control. Authorities emptied Bursa of its Greek Orthodox population a century ago, and the church became a mosque in the 1920s. But in 2006 it was restored and for years served as a focal point for Greek-Turkish exchange and reconciliation, then was closed and lapsed into disrepair once the foundation took over. It follows a campaign by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to transform Christian sites, including Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia, which in July again became a mosque.
Tensions between Turkey and Greece are at an all-time high. Sources inside the Turkish military say Erdogan has ordered attacks on Greek vessels and is pressing for control of the eastern Mediterranean, including oil and gas deposits.
I want Constantinople back.
Destroy and murder is all what islam is about.
I’ve been there. Spent a week traveling through Turkey before Erdogan. The country was very open, and we had a wonderful time. In fact, Istanbul had more Christmas decorations up than my liberal town in WA state.
Bursa is the last stop on the Silk Road, has fabulous silk scarves for sale, which of course I bought. And our guide proudly showed us this lovely church. It’s a sin and a crime to destroy it.
BTW, I went to Turkey with a Jewish friend. Nobody, but nobody, in Turkey cared.
We went some huge carpet factory up in the mountains, and the woman dyeing silk did have a long black thing on minus the veil. We looked at each other and burst out laughing about our differences—a high-five moment. She’d get ten lashes or worse now.
I mourn for Turkey now. I’m literally in tears.
That was beautiful building.
What a wonderful country.

Last winter I spent a week in Jerusalem, which is now held, as it should be, under the Star of David. I saw a t-shirt in the old city that said “In 1967, the IDF put the ‘Jew’ back in Jerusalem!”

The number of closed churches I’ve seen in MA and RI is sad.
Mom’s church is a up and coming area where the bloodsuckers could get a lot of money for the property. At best it’s gonna be merged with another parish. :/
Oh yeah - here many of them are condos, etc.
