John C. Wright, The Mark of the Beast in Our Times
http://www.scifiwright.com/ ^ | July 16, 2020 | John C. Wright

Posted on 07/16/2020 6:58:11 PM PDT by Lee N. Field

A reader with the bluish-grey but divine name of Cassious Dio writes:

And, for the first time, in 2000 years, public mass has been suspended over the WHOLE EARTH. I think this is bigger than we realize if we consider the economy of grace.

Are the Last Days nigh?

In every generation it seems that they are, but only one generation will have the dubious privilege of being right.

And yet, and yet, I cannot shake the suspicion that it is our generation.

I am sure those living during the Black Death felt the same way, or the scattered Englishmen of Alfred the Great’s day when the Dane was invading.

And yet…

Even Sodom and Gomorrah did not have gay marriage. Even the Romans at their most decayed, did not actively hate Rome and tear her statues down. The temple prostitutes and pederasts of Babylon, the torture-cannibal priests of Aztec lands, neither killed their unborn in numbers like ours, nor sought to abolish masculinity, virginity, family as we so diligently do.

Our is a nihilist age. Nihilism is a halt state.

It is the position that all thought is in vain, for there is no truth. It is a position which, once adopted, one cannot by clarity of thought nor by love of truth recover again, because these are the very tools nihilism breaks. It is the thought that stops thought.

So I see no lower we can go. Either we return to God, or we see civilization collapse in fire and terror.

Western Man is in his sick bed. Will it be his death bed?

I cannot say.

Allow me to mention that I have been reading and re reading the Book of the Apocalypse over and over again. There is a blessing for those who hear the words of the prophecy.

One of the prophecies is of a the beast of the earth that had two horns as a lamb, and spoke as a dragon, of which it is said “He had power to give life unto the image of the beast [of the sea], that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.”

“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name …”

At first, I imagined something like a 40-story giant statue erected in the center of Jerusalem, which could move and talk like Disney’s Meet Mr. Lincoln exhibit at the World’s Fair, maybe with camera behind its eyes and flamethrowers hidden in its muzzle, so it could smite people with fire.

But looking around me now, I notice that the television box and the computer screen are nonliving things that mimic the faces and voices of people far away. They are also images, merely graven with electrons rather than with wood or stone.

I have seen when this image, in the form of Patreon or social media, suddenly makes it so that Stefan Molyneux or Alex Jones “could not buy nor sell” because they did not have the Mark of the Beast on brow or hand, that is, neither in thought nor deed were they political correct.

Coincidence? I hope so. I wish the Millennium to hasten, but I fear the Tribulations.

*** *** ***

The apocalyptic writings of St. John, however, hold out this firm hope: we win in the end.

The dry trek through the wildness ends in the Holy Land. After Good Friday, comes Easter. Our weeping will be turned to dancing. The dry bones seen by Ezekiel will live again.

The New Jerusalem will descend like a bride adorned for her wedding.

(As generous victors whose triumph is assured, we can, even beforehand, afford to have some pity for the losers, who rage and riot about us now, imagining that they rule the earth. Poor souls!)

From the personal blog of science fiction writer John C. Wright.

(Mr. Wright is a convert from atheism to full on traditionalist Roman Catholicism. Not my brand of Christianity. Nevertheless, I find him an interesting read.)

There are those who believe that even natural disasters can be (and have been) averted because of the quantity and continuity of prayers being prayed.

If far fewer prayers are being prayed because of closed churches then we might be in for some bumpy weather. At least it seems that China has been experiencing some bad weather lately... and coincidentally soon after cracking down on the Catholic Church.

A thought that has plagued me... signs of the end. The abomination of desolation. Pagan offerings replacing the daily offerings of the Temple or Altar.

Pachamama.

Growing up, all my life, I heard I will not accept this Mark of the Beast. I would rather die first. But I see how willingly they accept this new mask requirement and their is no death penalty to enforce it. I have a nephew who bought into this whole “If everyone would just wear the mask it would all be over in a few weeks”. He wore his religiously. Now he is ill. Not from Covid. He has breathing problems and my guess it is the chemicals in the synthetic mask he wore so often. No too many will accept whatever edict the government requires for what ever “good reason” it will be for.

It’s the frog in the pot thing.

If the mark of the beast were suddenly demanded of people 30-40 years ago, there’s be a lot of resistance.

Now with nano science, biochips for pets, dementia patients, kids, for the sake of the children, debit cards encouraging us to go cashless, etc, we are being desensitized to taking some sort of mark and when the time comes, people will cave just as quickly as they did with the mask thing.

The things that have happened in our country since just the beginning of this year have been staggering in their scope and the speed with which it has all happened.

And I think it’s only going to get worse, much worse, in the months to come, culminating at the election.

And if Trump wins again, the dems will pull all the stops and all hell will break loose. What happened in 2016 following the election will look like a block party in comparison, IMO.

I intend to be ready for it.

And “TOLERANCE”
A guaranteed last days word. When the world is told and ACCEPTS that TOLERANCE of everything must be guiding belief, we are at the end of civilization. There simply is nothing left with which to inspire, lead, or defend. And that, to me, is exactly where we are.

The paper masks are poison. The cloth masks work a lot better. Also, people are wearing them more than once.

Mountains out of molehills.

Wuhan flu...just the yearly flu we get from China. This one was particularly pernicious.
We WILL get another one this winter. China is filthy.

There have been outbreaks of the bubonic plague in China most recently. Par for the course.

The Chinese aren't stupid. They know full well that their attitude toward cleanliness is horrific. And that is ONLY because cleanliness COST$. They would rather have these outbreaks of flu and plague than clean up their act.

I thank our good Lord EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE that I was born here. God has TRULY blessed this country.

I wonder what China did to tick off God.

Kurt Tucholsky in early stage of Nazi Germany: “A country is not only what it does but what it tolerates.” Reply #11, you have it exactly right. Very sad for our nation.

Good grief, Cloud Mountain Reply #13! How about forceful taking of people’s body organs for a starter for what in China is “ticking off God” as you put it?

Yes, we are being primed to desire tracking and chipping because people will believe the benefits far outweigh the negatives. It’s so much easier! Reduced chance of identity theft! Keep track of your loved ones! I believe the world will line up freely to get their chip. And I don’t think it’s too far away.

Yeah I think we are being primed - especially youth- for the real deal, sadly. I hope we are all strong enough to reject it. But as a homily I recently heard from Father Mike Schmitz on Youtube, so many people now have “too much to lose”. Will we be willing to let go of everything? Do we have too much to lose?

Well said.

We’ve 3,000 plus years of cultural advance to ignore. If our media can succeed.
