St. Michael the Archangel
~ PRAYER ~
St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
Cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen

A Prayer for PriestsO my God, help those priests who are faithful to remain faithful; to those who are falling, stretch forth Your Divine Hand that they may grasp it as their support. In the great ocean of Your mercy, lift those poor unfortunate ones who have fallen, that being engulfed therein they may receive the grace to return to Your Great Loving Heart. Amen. Precious Blood of Jesus, protect them!
The Most Precious Blood of Jesus
July is traditionally associated with the Precious Blood of Our Lord. It may be customary to celebrate the votive Mass of the Precious Blood on July 1.
The extraordinary importance of the saving Blood of Christ has ensured a central place for its memorial in the celebration of this cultic mystery: at the centre of the Eucharistic assembly, in which the Church raises up to God in thanksgiving "the cup of blessing" (1 Cor 10, 16; cf Ps 115-116, 13) and offers it to the faithful as a "real communion with the Blood of Christ" (1 Cor 10, 16); and throughout the Liturgical Year. The Church celebrates the saving Blood of Christ not only on the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, but also on many other occasions, such that the cultic remembrance of the Blood of our redemption (cf 1 Pt 1, 18) pervades the entire Liturgical Year. Hence, at Vespers during Christmastide, the Church, addressing Christ, sings: "Nos quoque, qui sancto tuo redempti sumus sanguine, ob diem natalis tui hymnum novum concinimus." In the Paschal Triduum, the redemptive significance and efficacy of the Blood of Christ is continuously recalled in adoration. During the adoration of the Cross on Good Friday the Church sings the hymn: "Mite corpus perforatur, sanguis unde profluit; terra, pontus, astra, mundus quo lavanturflumine", and again on Easter Sunday, "Cuius corpus sanctissimum in ara crucis torridum, sed et cruorem roesum gustando, Deo vivimus (194).

-- St. Louis de Montfort
The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary:
Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.
And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.
Amen. "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you" (Lk 1:28) "Blessed are you among women, |
I will lead her into the desert and speak to her heart. (Hosea 2:16)
Do you feel like youre in a desert right now? Any number of circumstances might make you feel this way. Perhaps chronic pain is absorbing all your energy. Perhaps you have recently said farewell to a beloved friend. Perhaps you feel youre not connecting with Jesus despite how hard you are praying. Where is God in such desert moments? Hosea would tell you that God is right there with you.
The Israelites were living in relative peace and prosperity when Hosea began prophesying to them. But he knew the situation would get worse. Assyria was on the march, conquering one nation after another, and it had Israel in its sights. War and invasion were coming, and the nation hung in the balance.
But that didnt have to be the end of the story. Hosea told the people that the coming desert experience of military defeat could result in a deepened intimacy between them and God. It could be an opportunity for them to renew their covenant relationship with the Lord and to accept him as a bride welcomes her loving husband.
That might be hard to believe. Hardship usually makes us ask, What did I do wrong to end up in this place? But God always finds a way to use hardship to bring us closer to him. Our desert might be the direct result of our own sinlike a friendship wounded by our bad temper. It might be the result of the imperfect world we live inlike a terminal illness. Or it might be a little of bothlike having your country overrun by an enemy. Either way, instead of asking, What did I do to deserve this? we can ask, What does God want to do in me through this experience?
So next time you feel like youre in the desert, try to see the upside. Remember that God is with you even there. Take a deep breath and try to quiet your thoughts. Turn to God and let him speak to you tenderly. Settle into the silence and listen for his voice. God can bring his love to bear on whatever situation you face, even in the harshest of deserts.
Lord, I believe that every situation is an opportunity to grow closer to you. So help me to trust in you during the desert times.

Daily Marriage Tip for July 6, 2020:
St. Maria Goretti was martyred for her fidelity to being pure for Christ. How can you purify your own heart? Pray for the grace to live out purity in your marriage.
Our only vengeance as followers of Jesus Christ is to love more and serve more, especially those who are harming us. This is an imitation of Jesus, Who died to save those who kept hurting Him. When St. Peter denied Jesus three times, Jesus did not punish Peter or take revenge on him. Instead, Jesus asked Peter, “Do you love Me?” Jesus responded to injury by loving even more.
This is how Jesus responds to us. We have sinned against Him, but He loves us even more (see Rm 5:8; cf 1 Jn 4:10). He pursues, allures, and woos us (see Hos 2:16ff). He takes us into the desert, that is, He strips away all we depend on, in hopes of increasing the chances that we will turn to Him. This is His special “vengeance” (Rm 12:19-21).
If you have loved ones whom you are trying to lead to the Lord, be encouraged. Jesus wants them to come to Him much more than you do. He will love them more and more. Let us imitate Jesus by responding to insult and harm by increasing our love.
Prayer: Father, touch me so deeply within that I am impelled to respond to injury with Your steadfast love (see 2 Cor 5:14).
Promise: The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness. Ps 145:8
Praise: St. Maria, a virgin martyr, was canonized on June 25, 1950. In one of the most unique ceremonies in Church history, it was attended by both her aged mother and Marias repentant murderer, whom she forgave before she died.
