[Catholic Caucus] As Masses open up, priests told to DROP Hosts onto hands, Communion on the tongue is banned

[Catholic Caucus] As Masses open up, priests told to DROP Hosts onto hands, Communion on the tongue is banned

As public Masses start up again, people are sending notes with indications from different dioceses about distribution of Holy Communion.

Under the excuse of being “realistic” and so forth, chanceries are writing for their bishops – I prefer to believe that the bishops themselves are not so awful – that Communion in the hand is obligatory and that people do not have a right to receive on the tongue.

Sed contraRedemptionis Sacramentum says “Quamvis omnis fidelis ius semper habeat pro libitu suo sacram Communionem ore accipendi,…”

[92.] Although each of the faithful always has the right to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, at his choice, if any communicant should wish to receive the Sacrament in the hand, in areas where the Bishops’ Conference with the recognitio of the Apostolic See has given permission, the sacred host is to be administered to him or her. However, special care should be taken to ensure that the host is consumed by the communicant in the presence of the minister, so that no one goes away carrying the Eucharistic species in his hand. If there is a risk of profanation, then Holy Communion should not be given in the hand to the faithful.

NB: “Always” and “right”.

Moreover, if Communion in the hand isn’t bad enough… and it is an abomination… now priests are being told that they are to drop the Host onto people’s hands.

They are to DROP the Host.

DROP. THE. HOST.

One of the sad and ironic advantages to this period of closure of Masses is that there have been millions fewer sacrilegious Communions received each Sunday by un-confessed and tepid or rebellious Catholics.   Millions of “Body” blows that the Church didn’t have to absorb.  Now priests are being told to drop Hosts onto palms.

Recently, Robert Card. Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments, answered a questions about reception of Communion.  HERE

There is already a rule in the Church and this must be respected: the faithful are free to receive Communion in the mouth or hand. […]  The devil strongly attacks the Eucharist because it is the heart of the life of the Church. But I believe, as I have already written in my books, that the heart of the problem is the crisis of faith in the priesthood. If priests are aware of what the Mass is and what the Eucharist is, certain ways of celebrating or certain hypotheses about Communion would not even come to mind. Jesus cannot be treated like this.

Certain things would not even enter into their minds.

I wonder if Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus allowed the Body of Christ to drop to the ground when they removed Him from His Cross.

[38] And after these things, Joseph of Arimathea (because he was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews) besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. And Pilate gave leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. [39] And Nicodemus also came, (he who at the first came to Jesus by night,) bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. [40] They took therefore the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths, with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. John: Chapter 19.

This is terrible to see.

The worst of it is the lack of resistance.

No one is getting their rights until they take them back.

The PTB aren’t giving them back. They are simply waiting for everyone to get used to living without them.

I'm an Extraordinary or Eucharistic minister at my church, I have been since the early 1990's. As Jimmie Stewart said in How the West Was Won,"

I'm a deep dark sinful man. I'm also rapidly approaching 70 years of age.

I haven't been to Mass in about 5 weeks. I'm way past ready to return. I also need my EM job because I need it for my soul. I never liked the tongue routine but never shied away from them. If a parishioner offers me his tongue, he gets the Host just like always. Maybe he or she needs it like I do.

It says right here normal humans can't continue to exist in the anti-social way we are now required to exist. As Winston Churchill said so eloquently a long time ago, "It is better to die than to live as slaves."

I, myself, have never touched the Body of Christ with my hands, and I never will. I refrain from doing so for my soul.

Then you should have never been permitted to be a Eucharistic Monster.

Ease up accuser.

Receiving in the hand is licit per the Church. You don’t have to like it but you don’t get to make the rules.

For our previous notes I know you have deep devotion to our Lord and our Church You might want to think about using your knowledge, talents and experience to engage instead of attacking. Calling someone a monster because you disagree is less than charitable, and certainly not engaging.

Though I am sure haters love seeing the infighting...

All the best.

That’s because it is a discipline. Unlike dogma, disciplines can change, dogma can’t.

For example, and I know I will get roasted by some here, priestly celibacy is discipline (in the Latin rite) so could theoretically change.

Sorry but I think anyone, except for priests, who manhandles the Body of Christ are monsters.

And you're right. I don't make the rules. That's why I choose to go to TLM's where this none of that nonsense.

Receiving in the hand is licit per the Church.

So is Holy Communion for the divorced and remarried, per the Pope.

Read the book, “Get Us Out of Here” by Maria Simma. You will never receive Holy Communion in your hands again!

BTW, the priest is the only Eucharistic Minister at a Mass. The priest is the Ordinary Minister. Others who help distribute Communion, which we won’t need with only 25 attendees, are properly called Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
