Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Sometimes, when I can't sleep, I make lists in my head. A few nights ago, I listed all the schools I attended, jobs I had worked, and places I used to go for entertainment or personal enrichment. Of the 38 places that I could remember, only 3 still exist. Both my Junior High and High School have been turned into housing for the elderly, The companies I worked for in telecommunications have long been dissolved, and the theaters and venues long since torn down and turned into condos and strip-malls. It would take an urban Archaeologist to determine if these once bastions of civilization even existed at all.

The dashing, adventurous figure of Indiana Jones has caused a renewed interest in Biblical Archaeology that is reflected in popular culture and the media. One could argue that the craze is not limited to BIBLICAL Archaeology, but even the relative popularity of the films themselves shows that Biblical artifacts seem to generate more interest than the treasures of other cultures. Movies #1 and #3 were about the Ark of the Covenant and the Cup of Christ respectively. Movies #2 and #4 were about a Hindu artifact and a crystal skull. Both Box Office and Critical Reviews reflect that (unlike the first four Star Trek movies) the odd-numbered films were far better than the even numbered ones.

I include the fascination with Egypt as part of this trend, because Egypt figures very prominently in Scripture, especially the First Five Books. The unearthing of Ancient Egypt is a huge commodity on Cable, along with investigations into Templar Tales, Crusader Ruins, and secret tunnels under The Temple Mount. Even the Oak Island digging is thought to be after some kind of treasure from the Bible, stolen from the Holy Land during the Crusades. The History/Entertainment pundits have even found a way to link The Crusades, Early Native American Empires, The Templars, Christopher Columbus, Pirates of the Caribbean, Nova Scotia, The Founding Fathers, The Freemasons, the Nazi's demented search for artifacts to prove their vile philosophy, and the Street-Plan of Washington DC, into one big bundle that all points to one thing: TREASURE.

Although Archaeology purports to be a search for Truth, it is constantly plagued by "Treasure Hunters". Even the great names associated with Archaeology have been found with secret stashes of unreported TREASURE, which never made it into museums. The two things: Treasure and Power, have motivated a lot of our History, Entertainment, Lore, Legends, and even Political maneuvering throughout the centuries.

And then there are folks who live their lives quietly, working daily to make ends meet, and counting upon God for their sustenance. This is a far greater "treasure" than anything that can be dug up from under the earth. It is more precious than Gold, more powerful than Plutonium, and more satisfying than the fruits of Eden. It is the Presence of God. St. Paul tells us that "We have this Treasure in earthen vessels" (2 Corinthians 4:7) and it is worth more than all the Wealth of Solomon, or even the Wisdom of Our Founding Fathers.

And so, in the last of this Series of Seven Psalms for the Sons of Korah" we are encouraged to NEVER envy those who have more money than we do. Jesus even speaks of this in The Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 16:

…25For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

And so, in spite of the fact that 35 out of 38 huge, monolithic, institutions of my lifetime have crumbled to dust, these three things remain:

1. I am redeemed by the Blood of The Lamb.

2. I am clothed in HIS Righteousness.

3. I am Accepted in the Beloved.

And that's worth more than all the treasure in the world.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

God Bless America!
