Which is referring to Jesus, who was a Jew.

I teach, and as kids were leaving for Christmas break one year I was wishing them a Merry Christmas as they walked out of the door. On girl says, “But I’m Jewish.” I said, “So was Jesus. Have a Happy Hanukkah and a Merry Christmas.”

This was said by Jesus to the Samaritan woman at the well. He was telling her to forget about any divisions and enmity between Jews and Samaritans and to forget about any system of worship of her fathers.

What a wonderful story this is about the saving of a soul who most Jews of the time, including the disciples, would have avoided completely. As usual, Jesus is beautifully shocking and surprising in his words and actions.

Yes. Jesus is from the Jews. On His Mother’s side.
