The other day I posted – HERE – about the truly weird vestments designed for the upcoming World Meeting of Families in Dublin.
At first, I objected to the impression given by the pastel colors chosen.
It seems to me that, in Ireland and in this time of renewed clerical crisis, this is NOT the best choice. In fact, it is completely tone deaf.
Or is it?
Then the comments started coming in about the symbols on the vestments. “Maybe, so, maybe not,” I thought.
But wait. There’s more.
I got an email from a reader who said that the swirly symbol is quite like the – blech blech blech – symbol used on the flag – even they have a flag – of the BDSM types (Bondage Discipline Sado-Masochism).
He said I would find the symbol at the wikipedia site for BDSM. DO NOT GO THERE. I found it. Blech. Here it is. In two forms.
I don’t even want to post their graphic file, so I will make a screen shot instead.
I had also posted about the Italian proverb that, “Il diavolo non può nascondere le corna… The Devil can’t hide his horns.”
In fact, the Devil doesn’t want to hide them.
The Devil always tells us what he is up to, if we are paying attention.

I just don’t see the BDSM symbol on the vestments. That does not mean they aren’t so bland as to be hideous. But sometimes an ugly vestment is just an ugly vestment.
Satan’s mockery of the Trinity. The colors are hideous. It’s all about soiling traditional religion and families and honoring LGBTQYZ “families”, as far as I can tell.
I was an alter boy in the midst of the 70’s post VCII crap. In my parish, we went from the classic black cassock and surplus to a new age gown with weird floral trim.
One of our new priests insisted on no bells during the consecration. I continued to ring them saying I forgot his instruction. He hid the bells. I found them. Eventually he left “for medical reasons.”
That’s what resistance looked like back in the day I guess.

Looks like one of my Mom’s muu-muu gowns from the ‘70’s.
The triskelion has been around for ages. Among other uses, it is the heraldic symbol of both Sicily the Isle of Man.
Would you believe I have a well-smoked clay pipe in my collection bearing the triskellion?
Until quite recently, I wasn’t aware that the triskelion had acquired any sinister meanings.
That said, I can easily see how the triskelion — or any heraldic symbol — could be appropriated for nefarious purposes.
As to the meaning of the triskelions on the vestments, I will reserve judgment.
Bu they are some kind of ugly, I’ll grant you that.
