This is an excellent, clear and concise analysis by Mr. Ferrera. It is astonishing how Pope Francis would dare to canonize St. Pope John Paul, and then attempt to abrogate JP2's Papal Magisterium (and that of all their predecessors) point for point.

It's just surreal.

I do wonder, sometimes, if Pope Francis has some kind of weird multiple personality disorder. Please, everyone, pray for Pope Francis.

Pope Francis is a left leaning man and is concerned with left leaning thought (like climate change) in our left leaning, liberal times. The times determine the man to a great extent. Nobody likes to be accused of coming from the 12th century and this is his concession to modernity. If he had his way, things would be radically different in the Catholic Church. But he is paving the way, setting the stage for future change.

The times present the greatest temptations to the Church: the temptation to be more compassionate, more inclusive more Christ-like than Christ. This is the seductive liberal message and along with this is urge to sweep away the old, harsh, superstitious ways of the past. The new is in the old is out.
