In the end it is not God who sends anyone to the eternal place where there is not God, which is the principle pain in hell (CCC 1035), it is the person who in this short life did not want to sincerely seek the will of God and thus does not want to spend eternity with God.

Just can't bring yourself to believe what God tell us in his scriptures, eh???

Mat_25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Mat 13:42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

It ought to be clear that those in hell are going to be concentrating on the constant pain and punishment in hell and not sitting in the Lazy-Boy watching football thinking how much nicer it would be if God was there...

“sitting in the Lazy-Boy...”
Here on earth, whether we believe it or not, we are all surrounded by God’s love. But at death our choice to be with God or not to be with God will be confirmed for all eternity as it was for the angels in just one instant.
This freely chosen separation from God after death is more painful than all the other pains put together. This means that if you put all the fires on the face of the earth together and you jump in, this pain would be very little in comparison to the pain of eternal separation from our Creator after death! Of course all the joys put together on the face of this earth cannot compare to the joy of being in the presence of God in heaven.
God, who is love, respects our free choice totally. Thus God hides heaven and hell from us to leave us free. If we saw one instant heaven, we would die immediately of joy, and we would not be free to be able to not choose God, which means to sincerely seek to discover everyday the will of God and live it with much prayer, as we say with our mouth in the Our Father: THY will be done, not MY will be done.
