The discalced Carmelites were the order of St Theresa of Avalon. And John of the Cross. In their day they were very controversial and opposed by the (no surprise) Jesuits.

Last I heard, the max they can have at one time is 50.

They always have more wanting in than they can take.
They send out 5 IIRC at a time to form new Houses,
and then take in the next 5.
