I find the last sentence of the article above hard to believe. In Müller's letter to Bishop Fellay, he concluded:

“...during the Audience granted to the Cardinal Prefect on May 20 2017, the Sovereign Pontiff approved these decisions”.

There has since been no denial from Francis of Muller's assertion.

Is the Pope Catholic?

No, really. Is he?

I heard a podcast recently with the author of this book. In light of this article, the author was amazingly prescient. He said Francis disliked the Latin Mass and was in a typical leftist low-level but constant propaganda and bureaucratic war against it.

If Bergoglio attempts to nullify or rescind Summorum, he will be widely disobeyed. He should be universally disobeyed.

Summorum—the document—may be “rescinded,” but the truth it articulates cannot be rescinded. Namely:

No Pope has the power to abrogate an ancient rite of the Church. This is why Pius V did not touch any rite older than 200 years, and it is why Paul VI never dared to abrogate the Missal of 1962.

Summorum does not give “PERMISSION” for the celebration of the TLM. It ANNOUNCES that no Pope or bishop can forbid it.

https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/cardinal-burke-responds-to-pope-francis-latin-mass-is-no-exception-summorum

Cardinal Raymond Burke defended the Extraordinary Form of the Mass as on equal footing with the Ordinary Form after Pope Francis described the former as an “exception” and said his predecessor’s freeing up of its availability was “magnanimous.”

Speaking to La Fede Quotidiana, Burke, the former Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura—the Vatican’s highest court—said the Church’s traditional, pre-Vatican II rite “is no exception.”

“It is the Mass of the Church of all times and therefore it can not be overthrown and has equal dignity,” said Burke. “For the rest, the motu proprio of Pope Benedict XVI is sufficient. It is unambiguous.”

Pope Benedict XVI’s motu proprio Summorum Pontificum clarified the right of priests to offer the Traditional Latin Mass without having to request permission from his bishop.

“There is no contradiction between the two editions of the Roman Missal,” the pope emeritus wrote, and both rites are permitted.

However, Pope Francis said this was a “fair and magnanimous gesture to meet a certain mentality of some groups and people who had nostalgia. ... But it is an exception.”

In the same interview, the pontiff criticized the “rigidity” of youth who are attached to the Traditional Latin Mass.

Burke is one of the most well-known defenders of life, marriage, and Catholic orthodoxy. He is the patron of the Sovereign Order of Malta and one of the signers of a recent formal request for moral clarity on Amoris Laetitia from Pope Francis.

I don’t speak or understand Latin. But I see absolutely nothing wrong with having Mass said in Latin for Catholics who understand and appreciate it.

Looks like a big “**** You!” to Catholics who disagree
with this Pope. He is really going out of his way to
pick a fight here.

I hope someone communicates to LifeSiteNews that NO PERMISSION is needed, or will ever be needed, to celebrate the TLM.

To the best of my understanding there are 22 rites of the Catholic Church, all of them considered valid and meeting of Sunday obligation (please correct me if I am wrong).

The New Order Mass always seemed a bit crass to me and removed the dignity of the Tridentine (TLM). However, its greatest problem was turning the altar around and having the priest face the congregation. Instead of leading people in worship, he now seems to demonstrate or act out the worship for the viewers in the congregation. Please note that previous comment is personal opinion, but highly influenced by Cardinal Sarah.

I also have a problem with the TLM, namely that it is in Latin. Always felt it should have been offered properly translated to the native language. The language barrier creates a separation that should not be there.

The TLM is a fairly old service (800 years or so - please correct me if wrong) and considered (by Catholics) to be without [significant] error during its time (~1200 until 1970). I can see no reason to bar its use as inappropriate. The Vatican does have a point though in wanting uniformity of service in Roman Catholic parishes. Perhaps it is time to create a Latin Rite Catholic Church (my apologies if it already exists), that uses the TLM instead of NO. Separate Rite not just separate service.

As mentioned earlier in the thread there are Byzantine Rite Catholics that use the Liturgy of St. John Chysostom and St. Basil the Great (originating from the 3rd and 4th century) and are usually translated into English (very respectfully). Perhaps it might be enlightening to see how Christians worshipped in the early centuries of the Church.

Maybe a different Rite for each service. Might be the real solution if the Vatican isn’t just looking to destroy the TLM and then the other Liturgies later.

It's cute how Frank is dismissive of the Latin mass, while Vatican pronouncements and publications are titled in Latin. I can't tell you how many Mitvahs I've attended for friends children. I do not understand a lick of Hebrew, yet the young are taught in, and the service proceeds entirely in Hebrew.

Maybe it's simply the universality of the language that makes the Latin mass enticing to some. The mass is understandable in any country. Or perhaps, a more sinister explanation could be that once the mass in written in native languages, the original Latin must be officially translated. Over time, translations can be amended as different papal priorities become popular.
