I've noticed that with the vast majority of ark images/renditions, the "negative space" between the cherubim looks like a tent (house). For example:

In either case, home is where the heart is. The tent concept reminded me of the [harlot] name for Jerusalem in Eze 23:4: Oholibah ("my tent is in her").
The name is interesting, because the name of God (Ehyeh) is in her:
אהליבה
"My tent is in her", also is His heart (lev Ehyeh). Looks like an example of the cure before the disease, the rectification before the problem.
