“The almost universal practice of Communion in the hand standing in a line as if waiting for ham in a deli is the result of a deliberate repression of Communion on the tongue kneeling and telling the people that standing in the hand is the only way to receive Holy Communion after Vatican II. All nonsense. All ideology.”

As a wee lad, I was an Altar Boy and we received the Blessed Sacrament kneeling at the altar rail(on the tongue) and no body but a priest would even consider holding the Host in their hand - much of that reverence has been lost in our post-conciliar era.

A few years later we had a “Folk Mass” with sixth graders strumming guitars on the Altar... shameful!

In fairness to Paul VI, many of the documents produced at Vatican II were maliciously misinterpreted By ‘reformers’ Sad.

One of the things I love most about attending Mass according to the "Anglican Use" is that the priest says Mass ad orientem, and that the people receive Holy Communion kneeling and on the tongue.

If you're not familiar with the Anglican Use, it is a fully approved variant of the Roman Catholic Mass. It is used by the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, and other Catholic parishes that have converted to Catholicism, or are designated by the local Catholic bishop as "Anglican Use" parishes.

I attend Mass at Mount Calvary Catholic Church in downtown Baltimore. If any Freepers want to see Mass how it ought to be said, join us sometime. Just drop me a FreepMail to let me know you're coming, and I'll be sure to introduce myself. During the summer we have Mass on Sundays at 9:00 AM. During the rest of the year we have Low Mass at 8:00 AM, and High Mass at 10:00 AM.

After every Mass we have a coffee hour and light breakfast. It's a very small, but very vibrant and growing parish. We'd love to see some of you there.
