The municipality of Selcuk, a town in western Turkey where Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her last days, plans to erect a giant statue dedicated to her in the fashion of the notable statue in Brazil depicting her son.
Virgin Mary House, a stone structure on the outskirts of Bulbul Mountain, is a popular spot among Christian pilgrims since its discovery in the 19th century. Looking to boost faith tourism revenues, Selcuk Mayor Zeynel Bakici said they would erect "a splendid statue" depicting the sacred figure, the same day he announced they were seeking to host an international faith tourism event next year. "Virgin Mary House receives 2.5 million visitors every year despite its authenticity while Portugal's Fatima hosts 5 million tourists every year," he said, referring to the town where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared to three children in 1917, making it a revered pilgrimage site. "We have to market our town better," he told a tourism event on Saturday.

God bless you. Please try to be civil.
The CCC disagrees with your statement
I guess it does, doesn’t it. How does praying in communion with the Holy Mother of God violate Scripture?
The book says with John.
After that; the Book is silent.
'Discovered' in the 19th century?
REALLY??
Why not?
Headquarters goes 'beyond' what they decided should have been in the BOOK they assembled; so long ago.
Sorry boys; but when an angel states "...this WILL happen..." no amount of 'cooperating' is going to be goin' on!
Luke 1:26-38 Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)
26 And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
28 And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29 Who having heard, was troubled at his saying, and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be.
30 And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God.
31 Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the most High; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever.
33 And of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done, because I know not man?
35 And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shalt come upon thee, and the power of the most High shalt overshadow thee. And therefore also the Holy which shalt be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36 And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that is called barren:
37 Because no word shalt be impossible with God.
38 And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
(shall / shalt is NOT 'asking' Mary if she'll do something for GOD)
(This ain't CONSENTING)
Sorry, Rome; but she has not.
I still have your 'private' mails to me.
catholics are praying TO Mary....that’s where the problem occurs.
1. The phrase Holy Mother of God is NOT found in Scripture.
2. Mary is dead.
Is that a threat?
Catholics are praying TO Mary....that’s where the problem occurs.
Who was the first to express a problem with the practice?
It is my understanding that Christians have been asking for Mary’s intercession from the early days of Christianity, and nobody had a problem with it until sometime after the Reformation. Is there a record of Luther, Calvin, or Zwingli having a problem with it? Or was it someone who came along after them? Do you have any information on that?
1. The phrase Holy Mother of God is NOT found in Scripture.
It is found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which is based on Holy Scripture and Sacred Tradition.
2. Mary is dead.
Sacred Tradition says she is with Jesus in heaven.
If you don’t want to believe it, then don’t. But I do.
Peace,
Rich
You seemed to give that impression a few posts back.
However, in the NT we do not have any example of people being told, or people praying to, departed believers.
. We do have numerous examples of being told to direct our prayers to God. The best known being the Lord's Prayer.
You seemed to give that impression a few posts back.
There are Catholics who get carried away. I was wrong about the Catechism, though, and you corrected me. I did not realize that it specifically stated that we pray to Mary.
It got me to wondering when Christians first started expressing concerns with praying to Mary. Do you have any information on that?
Lol. She probably hopes that it's a promise.
Well, goodie, ya wanna cookie?

I presume this has been edited by catholics.
As translated in English
WE fly to thy patronage, O holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

I am familiar with the sub tuum praesidium. My question was about when praying to Mary was first questioned.
When did Christians first start proclaiming that we should NOT pray to Mary? And who were they? Do you have any information on that?
It seems to me you claim to have no spiritual fathers, mothers, brothers, or sisters, which is your will I suppose.
