Have you ever bothered to read past verse 53, to see what Jesus said to His disciples regarding the episode with the literalist that had just occurred? Maybe you can get your priest to read it to you ...

People only interpret Scripture when they don't like what it says.

So if you're following an interpretation, then you are following a meaning that the passages don't say.

The rest of us just read what it says and go with that and believe it.
