So, in other words, the Bible is wrong? Does the good Monsignor intend on going down that rocky road?

Reading the bible is the best defense against this type of gobbledygook.

That's funny; I thought this picking on "fellow chrstians" was supposed to stop.

I guess that applies to only one side.

μεσίτης mesitēs

I.one who intervenes between two, either in order to make or restore peace and friendship, or form a compact, or for ratifying a covenant

II.a medium of communication, arbitrator

There is only one who restores us to peace and friendship with our God, and that is Jesus Christ. When we have people pray for us, they are not acting as mediators, but petition Christ to intervene on our behalf.

In a legal sense, they are not our lawyer, our advocate, but are amicus curiae (friend of the court).

Grace and Peace.

I will ask live persons to pray for me or someone else. I do not ask dead people since they cannot be with us except by the will of God. I ask Him and His Son.

I love my Catholic brethren, but I cannot follow you down that road.

I cannot see asking a dead person to do anything on my behalf.

I love you all, but I cannot go there.

Peace.

But consider that if there is only one mediator in an absolute sense, then no one ought to ask ANYONE to pray for him

What balderdash! The Bible instructs us to pray for one another. Besides, there is a distinct division between the Church militant and the Church triumphant.

If I ask someone in the Church militant to pray for me, I can know that they heard me.

If I ask someone in the Church triumphant to pray for me, I do not know that they heard me and can only hope.

My hope is in Jesus, based on the word.

Since talking with someone in the Church triumphant is a one-way communication, maybe you should start incorporating a ouija board so you can receive answers. Because if a member of the Church triumphant does not have to obey the rules of time and space (how many people are praying to Mary at this time all over the world?) what big deal would it be to move a little piece of wood.

So, even though the Bible says that there is ONE mediator - Jesus, somebody in the Catholic Church decided (without Biblical documentation) that Jesus is either too busy or not good enough and so we need to pray to dead people in order to speak to our God?

Just like the climate change argument, I don’t understand how basic truth can be missed here.

If God declares that Jesus is our mediator/intercessor, who are we to “correct” Him?

That is pretty treacherous ground to be walking on in my opinion.

Two different subjects.

Jesus is the sole mediator and high priest before God in cleansing us of our sins and making us holy before God.

Others, including the Holy Spirit, may act as mediators and pray on our behalf as intercessors but it is Jesus who is the lone source for salvation.

It seems quite clear to me. Not sure why anyone else would have an issue. As far as praying to Saints, have at it. But the prayer should be towards God the Father in Jesus’ name.

Let’s get off the anticatholic kick. I’m a died in the wool Baptist, but I get more encouragement from Father John on Fox News than anyone. All I want is orthodoxy and adherence to one’s Biblical faith. All of us have doctrinal pecularities and traditions that may need to be examined in light of the Word. Deep in Catholicism is the embedded Christ and His sacrifice for our sins.

the dead are dead. the only living is the resurrected JESUS. praying to dead people is sinful and conjures up evil spirits.

Good morning.

I purposely avoid threads regarding theology, eschatology, doctrine, etc. There is usually vitriol, ad hominem attacks, etc., and I don't like to see FReepers act like that. Remember, if the shtf, you would probably want a FReeper in your foxhole.

I want everyone to pray for me. Whether it is the apostle Peter, or mere humans, I need all the prayers I can get.

Remember the Lord said to pray incessantly. Why did he say that? Because he could be busy with things more important than me.

Who said, "the squeaky wheel gets the oil?"

Rather, we speak of a subordinate mediation, in which we seek the prayers of the saints, or of one another.

And how do these supposed saints hear your prayers? Can they read your mind? If they can, they must be gods themselves because omniscience is only of God.

Praying to anyone besides our omniscient Lord is a form of worship. Worshiping anyone but our Lord is Satanic.
