The only excuse for following the Catholic Church is spiritual blindness. But it seems to go deeper then that. It must also be intellectual blindness.

And just how old are some of the references in posts from you on a regular basis? Should I go back and date them?

And where is it written that those apostolic gifts given for the building of the NT church could be passed down ??

Acts 1

23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Please show me where Jesus said the gifts and authority that the apostles had for the building of the NT church were transferable ...

BTW just remember that you never heard from Matthias again... Jesus never told Peter that he was to replace Judas.. God had already chosen Paul

Good tree = good fruit

Bad tree = bad fruit.

It’s in your Bible, but then do you really have a complete Bible?

A great passage (in our quite complete Bible):
And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother's eye. "For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. "But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?
(Luke 6:41-46)
So in context Jesus is talking about the hypocritical fault-finding of the Pharisees, who pick at minor deficiencies in others while ignoring giant faults within themselves.  But does this in any way support the idea of intrinsic human goodness apart from the new birth?  Hardly. If anyone would be a good tree, they must begin their practice of goodness by agreeing with God they are lost sinners, and can only become good when God has forgiven them their sin, and put His own righteousness to their credit.

What did Jesus say to the rich young ruler who approached Him?  "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God." (Matthew 19:17a)  He then helps the young man recognize that despite a lifetime of thinking he was keeping the rules, he was too selfish with his material possessions to obey the Son of God in one simple request.  He was showing the young man he was not good after all.

So does Jesus contradict Himself here?  Not at all. No one is good but God. Jesus said it. The source of all that is good in the believer is God Himself.  If God has given that person new life through faith in Him, then yes, that person is now a good tree, made good by God's decree of innocence through the blood of Jesus, and so now that tree does bear good fruit, the fruit of the Holy Spirit working through grace.  We evangelicals have been saying that for years here.  Once God brings you to faith in Him and Him alone, and not in your own righteousness, but His, then and only then is it possible to do the righteousness that flows from faith.  The motive of obedience is no longer fear, but love, a godly reverence, but not grasping at rules as if they were the lifeboat.  Jesus is the lifeboat.  Once we are in Him, the fear is thrown overboard:
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.
(1 John 4:18-19)
Peace,

SR

Neither did we hear from these other Apostles again; Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

Scripture shows us that the Apostles prayed to the Lord to show them which of the two should replace Judas, and the lot fell upon Matthias to “take part of this ministry and apostleship.”

Where does Scripture show that Paul replaced Judas? A better case could be made from Chapters 12 and 13 that Paul replaced James.

I don't know if I should be happy that prots all this free time to hunt down anti-Catholic screes, or sad that their lives are so empty they have nothing better to do.

Will pray for you.

So Matthias used the gift of thievery; just like Judas?

John 6:28-29

Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

Amen!

John’s “they went out from us” is another allusion to false teachers departing from the apostolic faith. “Us” meaning John and the other apostles, not someone who leaves a church, per se (cults love to abuse this verse).

“And where is it written that those apostolic gifts given for the building of the NT church could be passed down ??”

I find it instructive that the writer of Hebrews speaks of them in past tense. Really, all miracles end up past tense since “the righteous shall live by faith”.

Pretty awesome that, by faith, we believe in the parting of the Red Sea, for instance, all because the Spirit witnesses to it in word and truth. We have not seen and yet WE BELIEVE.

Praise you, Father through your Son!

Not really. I’m not saying Paul replaced James, just that a better case could be made than Paul replacing Judas.

While it is true that Scripture does not show Jesus telling Peter to replace Judas, Scripture does specifically tell us that Matthias replaced Judas.

Where does Scripture show that God chose Paul to replace Judas?
