On July 31, 1932, the Nazis won 230 out of 608 seats in the Reichstag, making them its largest party. Nazis and Nationalists had 247 out of 583 seats in the Reichstag, not the majority, but with enough power for Hitler be legally sworn in Jan 30, 1933 as Chancellor Germany by President Hindenburg. It was not a coup de etat, that came later, and certainly not a democratic model for our standards, but legally according to the German laws.
Indeed. What occurred was what was later called the Nazi Revolution. It took about a year for Hitler to consolidate his power and then after Hindenburg does, to assume the office of Leader. It was the end, of course, of the Weimar Constitution as all parties were dissolved.
