...just as Eve was deceived, so too Catholics.
Yeah, but Adam took a bite too.
(Some of those Catholic gals sure are sweet and pretty. But nowhere near as physically beautiful as the Christian girls born in this country to Ukrainian immigrants.)

I also thinks it comes from the need to teach the Un educated masses of people by rote and memorization.
It doesnt explain the veneration of Mary, but does explain the method.
Thank you for giving me some insight into how RC thought has been perpetuated. I think the one behind this religion, and all false religions, is extremely intelligent; moreso than I.
Your lady's first response seemed characteristic of some other women I've met. Just smile and give the "It's a mystery" response and let it go; that may be why they live longer.
But, thanks again for the reply.

It is amazing the lengths to which the maternity of Mary is denied.
You say “Mary was the mother to Jesus’ human body which contained Jesus’ soul and spirit...She was not the mother of his divinity...”
Do you really want to go there? That God was not the soul or spirit of Jesus? How did that work, then? What part of Jesus was His divinity?
You say “If Mary was the mother of God, that would make her God’s mother...And that is flat out ridiculous ... God’s divinity wasn’t even manifest in Jesus til he was 30 years old...”
You may consider it ridiculous to consider Mary as God’s mother, but it is what Scripture tells us. While Jesus did not display His divinity until He was 30, He was made divine at His conception. This was made known to Joseph in Matthew 1:20 when the angel of the Lord told him that is was through the Holy Spirit that the child was conceived in Mary. It was also made known to Mary in Luke 1:31, 35 when the angel Gabriel told her that she will conceive and bear a son who will be called Son of the Most High, and this will come to be by the holy Spirit coming upon her, and the power of the Most High will overshadowing her.
You say “Other than recognizing that Mary was blessed because God chose her to be the mother of Jesus there’s not a single thing in the scriptures that leads us to believe that Mary had any role in the ministry of Jesus other than providing a body for Jesus to grow in and be born from...”
It is true that Mary’s role was to provide a body for Jesus to grow in and be born from. This is exactly what makes a woman a mother, giving birth to a child. And given that the child that was born of Mary was divine at her conception, that makes Mary the mother of the child that was born to her in His humanity and in His divinity.
You say “You guys have turned Mary into a goddess which is proven by all the statues you have made of her...You make ‘altars’ to this goddess and place her statues on top of the altars and bow down and worship (pray to) her...”
I won’t argue this point. While some of your disagreements are based on misperceptions, I respect that you guys have some beliefs that differ from Catholic teaching.
You say “Mary is not God’s mother...”
Scripture clearly shows us that the child that Mary conceived and brought into the world was God. This alone makes Mary the mother of God. Not that she had any other role in the ministry of Jesus, just “providing the body for Jesus to grow in and be born from...”
The angel did not tell Joseph “don’t go calling Mary the mother of God.” Gabriel did not tell Mary, “don’t go thinking of yourself as the mother of God. I have not seen anything in Scripture that says we are not to call Mary the mother of God. Have you?

I knew you would catch that. I meant to write:
The phrase “Mother of God” is not in the Scriptures.
But neither is the phrase “Mary is not the mother of God” in the Scriptures.

Why do you discount Muhammed?
Because all true prophets testify of Jesus Christ. If he were a true prophet he would have established the Church with Apostles at the head. He didn't do that.

Yes, that's so. But many prophets claim to testify of Jesus Christ but are liars. They speak of another Jesus than the One of the Bible.
So, how do YOU tell the difference?
To: StormPrepper
ROFLOL!! The Jesus of Mormonism isn’t the Jesus of scripture. The Jesus of Islam is not the Jesus of scripture.

You never did answer the question of why this point of order is so important to you.
But there seems to be a compulsion to intimidate other FReepers to agree with your assessment of the status of Mary the mother of Jesus.
Why does this matter in regards to one’s salvation from sin and the second death?
To: Elsie
Nice try to blame the ARTIST and let your Living Prophet® and his cronies off the hook.
What hook?

I don't know that much about Islam. However, you have a right to your opinion.

Wonder why so few FReepers voted for Mitt even though he is perfect in every way?

>>However, you have a right to your opinion.<<
It's not my "opinion". It's the word of God that declares who Jesus is. Mormonism declares something different for the Jesus they claim.

I should have said we have a heresy, not a heretic. I apologize for letting myself go in the heat of the moment.

Well, first thing I asked myself is, where am I getting my own interpretation of scripture from? Is my own interpretation of scripture correct?
From there I went to James 1:5.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
I decided to go to the source. I went to God in prayer sincerely looking for truth. And I got my answer.
The thing is I was raised a Southern Baptist. And very much an anti-Mormon. I was raised to hate Mormons and I was actually on my way to stop a friend of mine from joining the LDS Church when I got my answer.
The Lord gave me my answer. I can't and won't deny it.
A true prophet has at times direct communication with God. Therefore, they won't rehash the same things any local preacher would say. They will correct doctrine as well.
Plus, a true prophet will write down their communications with God and those writings will be considered scripture.
Therefore, if a church won't except new scripture, they won't be accepting the words of true prophets and in fact rejecting the words of God. Therefore, that can't be the true Church of God.
IMO, Rev 11 is like a ticking bomb for all the churches of Christianity.

My friend that was NOT Jesus..Satan comes as an angel of light..
That is Spiritually Impossible. To start with what I Experienced was intense Love that was off the charts. That is what God is, God is Love. The Golden rays that hit me I know now was the Holy Spirit. Since then I have been able understand people and a lot of time what going on in their hearts.
Satan rejected Gods love and Authority and cast along with his followers out of Heaven and into hell. Satan is pure hate and anger and very cold darkness. I was taught Satan knows the Bible better than anyone and he (devil)uses it to pollute the minds of unsuspecting people.
If you want to carry on this conversation Freep mail me. :)

It's your opinion on how to interpret that word.
Mormonism declares something different for the Jesus they claim.
Our declarations about Jesus are different than your interpretations of the Bible.
Again, you are entitled to your opinion.

I guess I have nothing more to say to you at this time.

You seem to underestimate the power of God and His ability to care for His own.
