Well Obama has weighed in. We need to get off our high horse. Don’t give us actual historic facts about the Crusades. Liberals such as Obama will tell us that atrocities were done in the name of Christ so get off our high horse.

I don’t understand what Obama is getting at. Is he saying that atrocities in the name of Allah are OK, because of what happened in medieval Europe? Is he on his own high horse??

The Crusades were a counter attack, necessary only for moslem agression.

No moslem agression and there would never have been Crusades.

Our Navy was an answer to moslem agression.

The world will have to, eventually and collectively take on this scourge and put down these dogs and their tired ideas once and for all.

What a pain, there is a lot of half truth here. As the First Crusaders marched through Europe on their way to the Holy Land via Constantinople, many smaller bands of armed men followed in their wake.

As I read the mostly popular histories, there were two crusader armies, a peasant army that basically was pillaging its way to the holy land, and a professional Army that was endorsed by the church and paid its way to the holy land. The peasant army was crushed by the Turks before they left lands claimed by Byzantium. This army was responsible for the majority of the crimes crusaders were accused of. The professional army conducted itself in the manner expected of a professional army in Europe at the time, but any prince would encourage them to move along if for no other reason than that they were a large body of armed men not loyal to him.

I have read that, once the Crusaders were in Moslem controlled territory, the first village they destroyed was a PAULICIAN village.

This was after the moslems destroyed the amateur army of Peter the Hermit.

For me, the Crusades does NOT conjure up a negative image!!! If it weren’t for the Crusades, we would ALL be MUSLIMS.

Well done and accurate. What happened in the late 19th to early 20th century that would make the West a target?

You are not familiar with the history of the Ottoman Empire? It was the dominant Islamic power of the time.

The Crusades against the muslims were an appropriate response to the threat they pose.

The only fault I find with them is that they didn’t finish the job and eradicate islam.

The peasant army you speak of raped, looted, and pillaged its way from Hungary to Constaninople. Anyone with Croatian or Serbian background, your ancestors would not have had fond memories of this bunch.

Wrong origins story. I was facetiously pointing to two fellows from Prussia whose ideas bore fruit and continue to rot our culture today.
