This is what keeps Catholics from the rest of the heresies. The Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ in the Eucharist as believed by the early Church fathers even before they infallibly assembled the books in the Bible as God’s Word in AD 382 in the Synod of Rome (The books in the Bible did not fall from the skies and self-assemble themselves) That infallibility to interpret God’s Word did not evaporate eleven centuries later with the Protestant Reformation. Many leading and eminent Protestant and Evangelical scholars and theologians have converted to the Catholic faith.

16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? (Apostle Paul, 1 Corinthians 10:16)

“This is what keeps Catholics from the rest of the heresies.”

So you need to tacitly (well, not so tacitly, actually) insult all other Christians to feel good?

The veil was rent (torn) from top (heaven) to bottom (earth) at the moment of Jesus’ death ... God came down to us and the way for salvation was entombed, and resurrected on the third day

Do you need to insult other religions by telling them about Jesus?

“Do you need to insult other religions by telling them about Jesus?”

That’s not analogous.

Unfortunately, polemics appear to be what passes for sober theological discussion around here. And that is not an exclusive shot at the Catholics. Scroll down a little ways from this post and you will a very nasty anti-Catholic thread with comments that make the one you are complaining about look positively irenic.

If a non-believer or inquirer asked me for a list of good websites to go to for discussion of religious issues, I am saddened to say this would not make it on that list. The religion forum on FR is frankly scandalous.

Sure it is; it also pops your doctrinaire bubble of self-congratulation.

Unfortunately, many here are not capable of sober theological discussion, so polemic campaigning is what they do to get in on the fun.

I agree.

I think the guidelines for Ecumenical and Caucus threads are good. It’s the Open threads that are not good. I’d vote for keeping the first two and dropping the third.

Better to ban caucus threads

So, you want no debate at all?

It would help if you guys recognized what rules govern "debate" and would actually concede when you lose the point.

It's a cesspool in fact.

If you think it is analogous, you don’t know what the word heresy means.

Re: “pops your doctrinaire bubble of self-congratulation.”

You can turn a phrase. I like that. It’s kind of poetic.

By all means, enlighten me.

And while you're at it, please tell me how you got from "protection from heresies" to "insulting other Christians" with the inferred emphasis on "Protties."

BTW, “bubble of self-congratulation” is courtesy of Thomas Sowell.

I only steal from the top shelf ;)
