Secrets in the Scroll of Esther
YouTube ^ | 11/3/2013 | Rabbi Mordechai Kraft

A video class (in English y'all) about the history of "Amalek" and a seemingly superfluous verse in the Scroll of Esther.

In short (if you don't have 48 minutes to listen to a fascinating class)

-The nation of Amalek in the Bible is the modern nation of Germany (the Rabbi lists Jewish Rabbinical sources stating it will be such-- even before the Midevil kingdoms of Germany emerged)

-Esther asks King Achashverosh to (Es 9:13) Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do to morrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.

If they just killed the ten sons that day... who was she asking to kill on the morrow??!

-The rabbi goes on to describe unmistakable prophesy in the Scroll of Esther pointing to the German officers hanged at Nuremberg as being the sons to be hanged on the morrow... 2300 years later.

This is well-known in Orthodox Jewish circles... posting for the fellow believers in G-d and His Torah here on FR.

If one can't listen to the class, here is a brief summary, though it leaves out the proofs in Jewish tradition that Germany is Amalek (the nation who attacks the Jews after they cross the Red Sea.)

The request was to extend the edict enabling the Jews to defend themselves to a second day. Purim is celebrated as a two day feast. The two commentaries I checked state that the other part of the request was to hang the dead bodies of Haman’s sons. This was intended to intimidate remaining Jewish enemies.

The interpretation of this article seems strained.

Re: “The interpretation of this article seems strained.”

Totally agree. There is no indication in the text that the passage has a dual prophetic meaning. This is a narrative passage giving further information in the account of the Jews being allowed to continue to defend themselves for a second day. There is no reason to read into the hanging of Haman’s sons as anything more than what it was - defending their lives against their existing deadly enemies - Haman and his family.

A familiar saying to all of us is that ‘history repeats itself’. But we all know that when history seems to repeat itself, it’s not an exact repetition, but instead, the new circumstances are very, very similar. We see these types of occurrences throughout history, so often, that we might even be able to go so far as to say that history itself is prophetic.

King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said that there is nothing new under the sun, so it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to say that what happens now, has also happened in the past.

Therefore, there is likely to be a very strong basis for thinking that the hanging of Hamman’s sons have a link to forward historical events, especially if you dig a little bit deeper from the Hebrew point of view. Even the date of those hangings is significant.

Unlikely. The Germanic tribes came from Central Asia. (The German language is related to Hindi and Sanskrit, not Hebrew or Arabic.). But that was probably well before the Exodus. We know that the Germans were well established in the same parts of Europe where they now reside by Roman times.

If the Amalekites have modern descendants, they're the same people who are oppressing the Jews today in the Middle East.

This betrays an ignorance as to the depth of meaning in the sacred Hebrew texts. Not just the peshat (plain sense) is valid, but also derash (homiletic), remez (allusions held in the letters), and sod (secret).

In addition to that, the very sizes, shapes, crowns, numerical values, and even the names of the letters are loaded with meaning. Chr*stianity's concept of "inspiration" pales by comparison.

The original poster points out that the identification of Germany with `Amaleq is ancient Rabbinic Tradition. What are you, a Protestant?

Plus there are indications from their words and actions that the Nazis (yimach shemam vezikhram!) knew that they were`Amaleq.

Does “ancient rabbinic tradition” exist in a separate compartment from “hypotheses testable against evidence”? There’s evidence about where the German people were at the time of the Exodus, both linguistic and archaeological. It doesn’t support the idea that they were close to the Holy Land.

Who is Amalek? The grandson of Esav (aka Esau, the twin brother of Jacob, boths sons of Isaac).

The descendants of Esav eventually left Edom and traveled to Europe and finally landed at a city called Chittim which we know today as Rome.

Why do you think the Catholic Church used its power to get upwards of 60,000 Nazis out of Germany as it lost the war? Grandpa always takes care of his grandchildren.

Also, BTW, what a gang of demoniacal, insane neo-pagans think they "knew" isn't evidence of anything but the condition of their own diseased minds.

Which is it? Rome or Germany? Pick one.

Pius XII saved the lives of 860,000 Jews during the war, according to the former Israeli consul to Italy, Rabbi Pinchas Lapide. That's why the Pope was eulogized by Golda Meir at the UN General Assembly when he died in 1958.

The "ratline" junk was largely due to one bishop (Alois Hudal) whose operation was shut down by the Vatican when they realized what was happening.

The Nazi's sure didn't pray for favor like Esther.

While some escaped Man's Justice, HaShem will get each and everyone of them in the end.

Something to think about this Purim

Re: “Chr*stianity’s concept of “inspiration” pales by comparison. “

I agree with you there.

I’m just curious. How widespread is this view among rabbis today, that ancient Persians are related to Germanic people’s? And, how widespread among rabbis today is this idea that “the very sizes, shapes, crowns, numerical values, and even the names of the letters are loaded with meaning.”?

If you are going to call out ignorance, then you left out pesher where the Jewish scholars lept off into pure speculative allegory ala Origen, who was inspired by the Jewish Philo.

It is 100% stock-and-trade Orthodox Judaism that Amalek (not necessarily ancient Persians...those who conquered Babylon) develops into, in part, Germany. And that the sizes, shapes, crowns, numerical values, and even names of the letters are loaded with INFINITE meaning and depth. Every Orthodox rabbi believes this.
