Ping!
So if the Bible is wrong or incomplete who gets to say what parts are wrong or incomplete?
Where does Rome get her authority from?
I keep asking this question. Never get an answer.
That is not what it means.. but then Rome lives on lies
“It is the Protestant belief that the Bible is the only source for teaching on doctrine and morality.”
When you get the very first point wrong, then how much hope is there for the rest of the article?
Maybe if you want to know what Sola Scriptura is about, you might want to try asking a Protestant? Catholics around here love to complain that Protestants assume things wrongly about their beliefs, and then they post articles like this which do the same thing.
Perhaps because the question is based on a false premise.
Christ
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Mat 6:18
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. John 16:12-13
But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. 1Tim 3:15
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Mat 28:18-20
Fortunately, we have Christs promise that heresies will never prevail against the Church. They will arise, endure sometimes for centuries, like Protestantism, but we can be confident in Christs promise that the Church He established will always teach the Truth.
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:6-9
Deuteronomy 4:2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take anything from it(also Deuteronomy 12:32). The reason God is so adamant on this is because The entirety of Your word is truth (Psalms 119: 160).
“Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar” Proverbs 30:6.
In the book of Revelation which is prophecy completes the Bible, just as Genesis began the Bible, it states “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this Book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this Book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the Book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this Book” Revelation 22:18-19.
The reason God is so adamant on this is because The entirety of Your word is truth (Psalms 119: 160). Proverbs 30:5-6: Every word of God is pure; he is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
Then tell me what it means
What does Sola Scriptura mean?
Where did Christ mention the Catholic Church?
This is very poor reasoning. The scriptures were read in church since the beginning. The various churches copied each others letters and passed them around. That was one of the qualifications for inclusion in the Bible canon. Any book added to the canon had to have a history of being read in the churches.
Besides, Sola Scriptura does not mean that illiterate people can't know God.
K Show me where Sola Scripture is in Scripture. should be an easy answer.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Mat 6:18
Christ established HIS church. With Peter as it's head.
Yup, false premise. Would you like me to explain why?
Yep. Please let me know when you have a writer on par with God.
It is the belief that the Bible is the supreme authority in regards to matters of doctrine and morals. It does not mean that the Bible is the only source on doctrine and morals. That may seem like a subtle distinction, but it is very important, because if you miss it, you may end up making false accusations like the author of this article did.
