‘Sin’ is back but ‘the Devil’ optional in new Church of England baptism service

The Church of England has reinstated the word “sin” into baptism services after a backlash from parishes who complained a new wording was “bland”, “dumbed down” and "nothing short of dire".

Plans to introduce an alternative order of service using more “accessible” language, have had to be redrawn after members inundated Lambeth Palace with letters complaining the move went too far.

But the church is to press ahead with plans to banish references to “the Devil” from the new format.

An official explanation sent out to members of the Church’s General Synod, following a trial of the proposed wording, said most clergy had found it “much easier” to ask parents and godparents to make vows which do not mention Satan. …

I’m sure this will delay the death of the church for at least a few extra minutes

I’m sure satan is happy about this.

Not too many years ago a primary school teacher in England told her young class that Princess Diana was sent to Hell because she had an immoral relationship with Dodi Fayed.

Kids in her class began to cry, and a firestorm of anger erupted after parents found out.

I won’t speculate on where Diana ended up, but obviously folks in the UK are not comfortable talking about Hell and Satan.

Sin is back. But isn’t this the “ church “ that has repealed most of God’s law?

Even today, the majority of British are very touchy about their Royal Icons, and don’t wish to imagine those Icons judged as being bad people. They will make cocky remarks, as if it’s all a joke to them, but if an outsider throws a little mud at a Royal, especially a Royal who died so tragically, they in general are not happy about it, and will let you know.

Sin will now be defined as any resistance to the global agenda.

It’s incrementalism. One piece at a time, liberals alter the landscape. One less devil here, one less “anti gay slur” rewritten in a more ‘acceptable/less offensive way, there, repeated over and over, and we all wake up one day to entire faiths embracing gay marriage, Popes having Muslims over to consecrate the Vatican for Allah and the rest.

I fully expect, in my remaining life, to see several ‘churches’ come out and tell us that “Jesus” was simply a metaphor” and Heaven is what we make it right here on earth.

Not Jewish by birth or conversion, though Torah nonetheless informs the core of my belief.

In every appearance of “the devil” within scripture, I can so readily see God himself as the antagonist. In other words, I see the devil as that level of abstraction within early human thought that transferred the commission of evil to another agent.

For me, there’s a great deal of dedication to the unified, monotheistic God, exclusive of anything else outside His creation, which to me, beyond the human idea, the so-called devil clearly is.

There are quite a few rabbis who would disagree, but they haven’t convinced me either.

Oh, well.... “L’Chaim!”
